Kicker l7 won't play high bass frequencies

My 15 inch l7 will not play high bass frequencies. In the song "the motto" by drake, the bass goes from low to high. As the bass builds up it gets more quiet until there is no bass coming from the woofer at all. Then it drops hard again and does the same process. Is there a way to fix this? It's passing me off because I paid a lot of money for this and it's skipping notes and it sounds like ****.

It is a crappy box, but that shouldn't be the reason that sub isn't even hitting at all on the high bass notes. Should it?

Sorry, I had to give you a hard time - nobody likes Kicker around here.

PapaGeno said it best - your subwoofer's enclosure is what's limiting it's performance. Assuming the box is ported, your frequency may be too low for your subwoofer to hit the high notes, or perhaps it's not the right size. Either way, your enclosure is what actually determines the performance of your subwoofer at different frequencies, and yours probably just isn't built for the high notes. Do you know where it's tuned at, and whether it was built to specs or pre-fabbed?

    1. Box
    2. LPF set too low?
    3. Squares get whiny on high notes before rounds. Just trust me on this. Shouldn't come into play for quite a while, but it does come into play.

What is LPF? I didn't install my amp and sub so I won't know where to change the setting is.

Re: Kicker l7 won't play high bass frequencies

I can't seem to find it's tuning frequency. I'm assuming it claims to be somewhere in the 30s, and to be honest, this is more than likely your culprit. If you want better all-around performance, I'd talk to a vendor about building you a custom enclosure.

Low pass filter. It is the highest frequency the amp will send to the sub before cutting off output. Anything above the LPF will be restricted in terms of ouput (usually on a 12 or 18db slope). In other words something 10db above the LPF is going to be nearly inaudible.

LPF is the amps crossover, FYI.

Also, saw the box. Tiny port, I'd venture a guess that it is really tuned higher than you'd expect, but would definitely be a cause for a limited bandwidth range.
