Does inverting your subs lower SPL?

I'm just wondering does inverting your subs lose SPL or anything like that?
In my opinion I think it would be louder in the box how it's suppose to be but ive never tried inverting my subs or heard much about it..

Now i'm thinking it would be louder because of the extra room in the box.. Ahhh somebody explain to me! lol

usually people do it when they are super tight on space and need to save like .28 displacement lol

Do you know if it changes the SPL level?

Depending on the setup you could gain tenths of a decibel on the meter, but chances are your ears couldn't hear the difference. Usually a larger box is going to be more efficient that a smaller box given the same power level. So by flipping the sub around you are gaining the amount of airspace that the sub displaced. However this amount is very small, typically .10-.15cu/ft.

You also have to consider impedance rise and different box volumes will give the sub a different impedance curve. So the only real way to tell is by doing lots of testing and 99% of people out there are either too lazy or they don't have the necessary testing equipment or know how.

Re: Does inverting your subs lower SPL?

lol, thats an example of inductive logic. When the general public thinks of the discovery and justification of hypothesis they are based upon how we interpret observations ( like test, which you said) and have them affirm our inital predicitons, which is a type of deductive fallacy.

Basically, I was just joking that he would have to do alot of logic called Modus Tollens, to be sure what exactly is happening..

and I was kidding, just spouting of some random crap.

I had a co worker tell me that if you invert subs that it will be louder and move more air(don't know if he is right or not). But I have also heard that you can hear mechanical noise depending on the sub
