Re: 2 subs without alternator upgrade?
American Bass subs have some good choices.
Re: 2 subs without alternator upgrade?
Subs have nothing to do with needing electrical.
Re: 2 subs without alternator upgrade?
to run two 12s you dont have to change your alternator. What vechile do you have? you got a sub amp yet?
Re: 2 subs without alternator upgrade?
i have two SA12's in my Jeep. all electrical is stock, nor do i have the big 3 and i'm very pleased with what i have
Re: 2 subs without alternator upgrade?
you do not "need" an alt until about 3k

Your electrical draw will determine your electrical need, not which subs you choose.
Re: 2 subs without alternator upgrade?
I'm most likely the guy who told you that you need an alternator in your other thread. If you were to run a true 2,000 watts, you will suffer severe voltage drop which does not make amps very happy. I mean, make sure to get a good AGM battery under the hood and do the Big 3 (don't connect to engine block. Connect to alternator case, fyi).
Take my advice for what it's worth. I cut my teeth in car audio back in 1998, when lower powered, higher efficiency setups were the norm. I was hammering off of a bridged 2 channel Phoenix Gold amp making only 300 watts. It's all in the install. I've since gotten with the times to some extent. However, it's common that someone here would love the fact that a sub can TAKE over 1500 watts of power, but I would be very sad that a sub would NEED that much power to shine. I would be even more sad that said system would require me to come off an additional $400 so it could all run properly and safely. It's all personal preference.
Re: 2 subs without alternator upgrade?
so if i have two 12" 600watt rms subs i would have to change a bunch of ****? cause a buddy of mine has 2 type r's with a 1200 watt amp in his tiburon and he has had it for almost 3 years now with no problems..im sorry about how dumb i am about all this ****, i just want to make sure im buying something that is worth buying without screwing myself in the end
Re: 2 subs without alternator upgrade?
no you shouldn't have to change anything ,you will have to do the big 3 tho.maybe a better battery down the road ,but 1200 watts rms is not that bad on your stock electrical unless its a crappy amp.

As said most electrical systems will support 1200 watts with a Class D amp, a good battery, and the big 3. But even with that depending on the vehicle running true 1200 watts RMS will be hard on a stock electrical system. If you have the space you don't need a lot of power to get loud. I am a big believer in efficiency and I don't like running high power beating the hell out of my alternator.
A lot of people around here say they have a 1200, 1800, 2000 watt or whatever amp when it's really only 500 RMS. May be the same case with your buddy.
