Your crossover should not be at 50 hz, way to low.

80 hz is much better.

It depends on what he likes man. There's no right or wrong. You are sacrificing a lot of output by setting it that low, even though you're only interested in <50hz output, I wouldn't set it below ~60hz. I personally never set mine below 70hz, but we all have different preferences.

the box my sub is in wont even remotely hit on the higher notes so i have to have it low...plus i dont want the higher notes anyway...

So it is wrong, music is supposed to be reproduced from 20-20,000 hz not 20 to 50 and then 100 to 20,000.

You're right, it's not supposed to be that way, but if that's what he likes, that's how it's going to be. You going to go over there and make him change it because that's not how it's supposed to be? And OP, if you're gain and boost are turned way up, that's a problem. You shouldn't even need bass boost if filters and gain are set properly.

well keep this in mind...the box my sub is in? doesnt hit high note relatively well..and what do i mean by high notes? maybe roughly around 70ish...it just sounds like more muffled mess..i keep it low..play only the lows..i have pioneer 4 way 6x9s playing semi mid bass...i dont really need the mid bass anyway..all i listen to is rap..not like an orchestra or something...gain isnt turned too TOO high...but again..amp is only a 600w amp and the sub can take 750 maybe even 800 but with a separate amp hooked up for the 6x9s i doubt that sub is seeing over 700..so i turn the gain up no further than halfway..that works fine..but my head unit turns all the way up to 50 something..theres no way im turn my radio up that loud just to hear alot of bass so i turn the bass boost up some..to where i get all my bass that i need at no higher than 30 volume...theres no loudness setting so thats off...bass is at 0 on head unit...im a rookie to this forum but not to audio..lol but again..SQ doesnt matter to me..

i guess to say...everyone says kicker ***** because it sounds like muddy crap..but i guess thats because they try to play bass over 70hz...all i want is the lows....40hz n below...amp only stops at 50 so thats what i set it at. last amp i had cut off at 20 so i had it set at 35hz period..the kind of music i listen to..warrants louder lower hz here are some tracks to give u an example of what i mean

The Motto- Drake (2nd set of bass notes)
Bag of Money- Rick Ross (2nd set of bass notes)
Trunk Bang- Dorrough(the whole song is like what?? 32hz and below?)
Thuggin-Lil Webbie (Fxck the higher notes..i like the lower ones in this)
Pop the Trunk- Yelawolf(Goes from high to low)

those are a few and you can clearly tell off the bat different bass notes..i cant stand proboxes because they are tuned waaaay to high for me...40ish...

ill try setting it above 50hz and see what it sounds like...but i still want another sub..lol

and sorry to bust ur bubble on that one..but i have it set at <50 because when i got the amp it was set at over 80...all i did was turn on a song and slowly adjust the crossover until i heard the sub hit its loudest potential. it wasnt loud at higher hz so i went down...got a lil louder..went down some more it got louder..so i kept doing that and it got loudest when the crossover was <50hz on majority of my songs so i stuck with it...never tried it higher because when i first got it..it didnt play higher loud enough...guy i got it from had it on pioneers...and the guy i got the box from had it with a DD9-something he said it HITS on lows and he made it himself...

Go ahead and count another vote toward Obsidian, lol. I have one of the 18's. I personally haven't heard the 12 or 15 inch model, but I can tell you first hand that Obsidian makes good subs. I LOVE my 18.

Yeah, this is the CS issues that I was referring to. You really can't go wrong with the SA or Obsidian. I just recommended the Skar because they really are designed to kill the lows.

but what they said was DBs arent all necessarily audible...just because it reads high on the meter doesnt make it loud to the ear...and we all know thats what im out for...loud to the ear...but thanks for the clear up...i think imma stick with the OA 12 or maaaybe the 15
