thoughts on switching over to a ported box?
Set up as follows. Would like to hear some input on the ole ported vs sealed...
I've researched some, but I figured I could get some good responses here as well.
A single 12" Kicker CVR124 getting 400 watts @2 ohms from a Polk PA D5000.5
It's currently in a generic sealed box, volume around .9 cubic feet.
I am a bit underwhelmed by the sub's output, and was thinking of switching over to a ported box. It's just not quite loud enough.
I am eyeing a ported box that is roughly 1.8 cubic feet.

Re: thoughts on switching over to a ported box?
Are you set on keeping that sub, or you looking to get a new one? Either way, get a design done and build one from the builders on here, or most will build them for you too. Go ported for sure.

Yes, I am about 90% sure I am keeping this sub, but I am open to explore. For the sake of this post, lets say I will be using that subwoofer.

Re: thoughts on switching over to a ported box?
Do it! You'll notice much more output with a custom ported enclosure. You can get one made pretty cheap right now from pro-rabbit.

Re: thoughts on switching over to a ported box?
From my experience with cvr's, id say 2.2 cubic feet tuned to 34hz for a 12".

Re: thoughts on switching over to a ported box?
Thanks, I will keep that in mind. Will dimensions be particularly important, or is it more about just getting the correct net cubic feet amount. I would like to avoid an equilateral box that will just up a ton of space.

Re: thoughts on switching over to a ported box?
So it sounds like ported is the way to go. Just curious, how much is my current box .9 cubic ft box limiting my sub's output? How much does size matter, heh.

Ported >> sealed
It's nice to be able to hear your subs.

Smaller box = more output but lower SQ...
Look up what is recommended for the woofer.

Re: thoughts on switching over to a ported box?
Ended up finding a ported box with a lil over 1.8 cubic feet internal volume, tuned to 34hz. Thanks for the help, you guys rock.

Swapped out the boxes.

It feels like an entirely different set up! I honestly just can't believe it, the change is ridiculous.

Re: thoughts on switching over to a ported box?
Glad you like it man. Wait until you get more power and subs in a box built for them. Wangin yo!
