I drive a ford ranger with an extended cab. I listen to lots of bass heavy music such as electro house, dubstep, and drum and bass. What size subwoofer should i buy? Whats a good amplifier for it? Oh and I only have around $150 to spend! Thanks

How much space do you have to work with? What kind of front stage do you have? Is the $150 including the amp?
Just some questions to consider before you ask these things. Too broad of a question to be asking here
With $150 for subwoofer, amp, box, wiring, etc., you are not going to be happy. Search the forum and learn about different things while you save some money.
what about $200?
front stage meaning your speakers. If you're putting subs in then I hope you have some speakers that will keep up with it. There's very little chance that you will get something that will be really good for $150 including amp. You would probably have to go used. Should be some good deals around the classifieds. I can sell you a small amp for a decent price that you can pair with a sub

$150 is a good budget for just the amp, or just the subwoofer, but it's not that much for both. With $150 you could get something like a Jensen or Dual or Boss amplifier powering something like a Kicker Comp or Infinity Reference sub. To be fair, a $60-70 Infinity Reference sub may actually sound good under the right tuning, specially in SQ-ish stuff rather than SPL-ish, but that's the kind of setup people who haven't discovered car audio forums would do. You don't want to spend $150 bucks and then start having regrets. If I wanted big, quality bass on the cheap, I'd consider the new Alpine Type-S subwoofer (SWS-15D2/D4) in a 2cu ft approx premanuf sealed box powered by a 400-600watt amplifier, assuming you have unlimited cargo space. The subwoofer costs about $100. A decent 600watt amp (e.g. PPI P600.2) may cost $150, and you may need to spend $50 on wiring, box, and accessories. Sonicelectronix.com sells great sealed boxes at pretty reasonable prices. For ported box, you may need to build one to subwoofer specifications. So the realistic budget should twice the original $150. If 2cu ft is too much, then downgrade to 12 or 10 inch. In general 15 or 12 inch can give you good SPL and low end even in a sealed box with good power. If you go with a sealed box, the 10 inch sub may sound a bit strained on demanding content if its in a sealed box (this highly depends on the subwoofer model, box, subjective tastes). You may want to consider ported for 10 inch or smaller subwoofers.
