Best 10" or 12" subs for an Alpine M850 Amp

    Hey guys,

long time reader and just set up my account!
quick question, im looking for 2 10's or 12's to put in box I already have (i have 10" and 12" boxes)
I will be adding them to an Alpine MRP M850 Amp

Im looking for sound quality, doesnt have to be hard hitting, just good bass and very clear.
And im looking for something cheap, I dont want to invest too much into the stereo.

Whats my best bang for my buck guys?
Remember, im not educated with this kind of stuff like u guys are.

    Thanks!

Re: Best 10" or 12" subs for an Alpine M850 Amp

One or two 12 inch Infinity Kappa 120.9w or Alpine Type-S (2012) in a sealed box. I honestly think that one may be sufficient. I got one Kappa in 1cu ft installed in a mid-sized Taurus with 450watt amplifier, and this thing provides very good sub bass, and body massaging lows when necessary. I don't have experience with the Alpine, but it looks promising. The 2012 Type S subwoofer is a step up from the old type S, with voice coil size increased to 2.6 inches, xmax increased 15mm, power handling is up to 500watts RMS, with new underhung design. I'd just get one sub, wire it for 4ohm impedance, and see how it goes. If more output in necessary, get an identical sub, wire in parallel for 2ohm load. Two of them should give more of the same. Another relatively popular subwoofer family is Dayton Reference HO. They're not super loud, but they're known have good SQ in a reasonably sized compact sealed or vented box, and they're affordable. I think two 12 inch SVC 4ohm version in 1.5cu ft, approx, sealed box, 0.75 per sub, should give good SQ and SPL. You can also try running one DVC 4ohm Dayton HO12 in a vented box.

I dont know the measurements but I can get them later.
the 12" box is ported and the 10" box is sealed.
The 10" box is also smaller

if you can get the external dimensions of the boxes, along with material thickness and the port size (I.D., or HxW, if slot port) off the 12"box, we could narrow things down quite a lot.

The best route is to buy subs that match the amp, then build the box for them...

I can get the dimensions later.
But honestly, how big of a factor is that when all i want is a clear sound with some bass?
Ive always had other name brands as my subs for my Alpine amp and was fine with the sound but they are old now.

Re: Best 10" or 12" subs for an Alpine M850 Amp

I would get a dual 2ohm Alpine Type-S subwoofer, and wire voice coils in series. This results in 4ohm impedance load, so amplifier will provide 500watts RMS power. If you decide to add an identical subwoofer, wire them in parallel, resulting in 2ohm impedance, so the amplifier will provide 800watts RMS.

Generally, you first select subwoofer for the amplifier, then select the box for it. Pre-fabricated sealed boxes are fine. The "sonic sub box" subwoofer boxes sold by sonic electronics are fantastic value, usually costing less than $30 a pop. For vented, you probably need a custom box.

hey you think 1 12" sub would be good enough for a Cadillac CTS trunk? When I say good enough, I mean clear sound with good bass nothing crazy?

If stuck on alpine grab a new R 12's build a good box. Gets dual 4's for that 2ohm load and be done with it.

The enclosure is the back bone for the sub-woofer stage. The enclosure will dictate the sound and output more then anything.
