spl questions

can yall please explain how spl (db) works, i know its the higher the better, but ive seen good subs like 15" solo- barics only have like 89 but a fosgate punch z 15" has like 91, i dont get it. please help!!!!!!!

ok, literally SPL is Sound Pressure Level. But in reference to what you're talking about, it is really Sensitivity. It means with 1 watt at 1 meter away (usually written as 1w/1m) it had a sensitivity of 89decibels (dB). Basically, it deals with efficiency, if two subs are exactly the same in every aspect except SPL aka Sensitivity then the one with the higher sensitivity will be more efficient and perform better with less power. OF COURSE, this is in theory and spec land....they are just spec on the subs...and should not be used to base a purchase off of it. So, really....ignore it, should not be a factor in buying subs. BUT, now you know what it is...peace
