DD just means more money for the same performance to me. They do make some great products like their higher end lines but the lower end stuff is just way over priced for what it is IMO

you don't need to get mad man. I am a chopped and screwed fan here and listen to songs 24-32hz all the time very rarely go above 35hz on my music.

Like many others, I am a fan of the "wow" factor, but I'm also a fan of saving space. Hence my single SA-10 right now. Everyone thinks I have a pair of 12's or something so it's always fun to say "oh, just one Ten." As for the sound... I am pleased. I have it on 1200w, it pounds, digs low, etc, etc... But I also like to listen to some classic rock like Eric Clapton, Otis Redding, The Rolling Stones & it does well with all of those too. Sounds clean and clear, doesn't distort. I thought when I started that I wanted SQ... and then I realized that it takes a ton of time and money perfecting a true SQ install, and that I am just as pleased with something that stays clear and doesn't distort at high volume. This does just that.

So on the same page as you. I thought I wanted sound q until I realized how much goes into it and that most sound q systems don't have the output I want. Just want it loud and clear. Makes me feel better about the SA's

I'm a huge fan of small subwoofers and have used most of the beasty 8" subs. IMHO they are wonderful, but when you bring price into the equation (as beastly 8"ers cost quite a bit) you can achieve more with larger subs.

Re: Are the beasty 8's really worth it?

For me it was really fun messing around with my RE 8. That whole WOW factor thing was pretty cool for a bit, showing up the kids with the CVR's in sealed boxes lulz.

They never believed me when I showed them it was just one 8. But it gets old really quick. I'm going to stick to single large sub setups, or maybe a 2 12's setup somewhere along the line.

Re: Are the beasty 8's really worth it?

8s are super fun... that is a large part of their appeal.

I run one 8" woofer in my daily car... mainly because with the PR box it's in it only use an 11" cube of space and still has output into the 130s range in the 30s Hz region with absolutely no fancy box tricks or any work to the car. With the new SA-8 v.2 platform it's also darn near impossible to hurt the driver mechanically -- so if I unload it at 25 Hz I hear a weird sound and turn it down a bit

There are also situations such as forward firing under a seat where a larger OD driver won't fit.

Re: Are the beasty 8's really worth it?

I have 4 sa 8's in my car and they are only seeing 150 watts a piece right now and msot people that sit in my car dont believe they are 8's not only for the output but because of how low they go. The box they are in is tuned to 32 and i am going to be putting some more power to them soon and will probably upgrade the the sa 8 v2's this summer. Heres a vid of some of them with almost 1000 watts a piece at 28 hz pushing 150 db..... i dont know what more you could want out of 8's!

    This.

In my experience, in answer to your question are they good for 8s or are they good period....I say good for 8s.....since u can take less larger drivers and do the same as multiple 8s. Do it for the wow factor and space saving in some cases but other than that, I wouldn't do it. They are fun though. Like I said I loved my SA 8s

Re: Are the beasty 8's really worth it?

Ran a pair of sa-8's in .66cf per box off 1835watts of clamped power tuned to 33hz and it was pretty good. Planned on 3 8s but by the time the 3rd one got here I had already made up my mind to sell them off. Good drivers but as u said I would wait for the v2's. Tried a tad bigger box .8ish something and had cone control issues using said power hit the bottom a few times...

I seen that PR set up! Looks really nice. Been thinking of going that same route. Does it get pretty loud with the PR? Want to run 2 SA8 V2 with a PR or 2.
