Icon32 Help with new sub box *BIG PICS*

    Hey,
I built this new box for 4 Boston Pro 12's and it sounds like crap. I think maybe I didnít leave enough room in the chamber I built?!?!? (subs are firing down)
Check out the pics and please post your opinions on why it might sound so bad. Help!!

uhm....It looks like your subs need some more room underneath them.

No **** they sound crappy! Your Vas is not enough, meaning basically you need a bigger box (about 5 times bigger). another suggestion is to use 3/4 inch mdf next time and add bracing inside.

Dude I DID USE 3/4 MDF, and I used exactly what Boston recommended 1 cubic foot per sub. Also each sub has its own chamber so there is no need to brace.

Don't worry about what he says. He doesn't know his ******* from his face. What about it sounds crappy? Does it have poor response? Is it to peaky with not enough output? Does it sound muffled? A little more info.

Re: Help with new sub box *BIG PICS*

Letís see.. I want to say all of the above. Very muffled, sounds like I have two crappy 8's back there instead of 4 12's. I donít think itís a power issue because I have 2 yellow tops, and a 1500 watt Fosgate. Is it possible I just didnít leave enough space in the chamber I built?

Get rid of the box your putting your enclosure in...there is not enough air space in the front of the subs.

In that case 620hpcrx is right. You need more airspace in front. Or you could just take off that cover on top and point them up.

Vas not enough? Vas is what it is, it's one of the T/S parameters of the sub. It is one of the things that dictates the optimum volume of the box (Vb) but it is not the volume of the box, nor is it adjustable.

Just wondering why the board over top of the subs?

They aer all in sealed chambers. Are you trying to make it sound like a ported box by putting that board over top or is that to hide the subs from thieves?

I have the board over the top of the subs because i have them firing down, and i didnt want them firing into the carpet. I have my amp rack on the back of the box, so its saves me space if i fire them down.

Re: Help with new sub box *BIG PICS*

If each sub is in it's own chamber with the right air space than you don't need any polyfill. I did the same thing with my HT sub. Sounded bad. Did research on it and realize I didn't need polyfill with the right setup. I didn't realize that adding polyfill to a box made the sub work like it was in a bigger box. Took it all out and I was blow away as to how much better it sounded. Better in every way.
