    15'' D2 paired with class a/b amp

I was going to get a hifonics 1000W amp for my 15'' magnum but someone who knows what he's doing told me class a/b amplifiers are of higher quality so what I need to know is what class a/b amps would put out around 1000 watts of good quality power. my budget is anywhere from 200-400$ any help on this would be greatly appreciated. I was looking into the soundstream rubicon 1000W any comments or experiences with this amp would also be appreciated thnx everyone.

well from what I know is that they are kind of inefficient especially A class amps but B class are some what ok with its push and pull technique, the reason being is that the A class need constant power drawing alot of it from your batt. and it would require you to upgrade your alt. which I would highly recommend if your going with a A/B class amp.

is there much of a difference between class D amps and either class A or B amps? because i dont want to upgrade my alt so i might just go with the hifonics 1000 or a PG tantrum 1200.2

I would go the the Class D amps for your subs. It will sound good enough IMO.

Gonna have to say there is no way in hell you'd be able to hear the difference between an a/b amp and a d running your sub. D is much more efficient, too. You'd be drawing around 20% less with a D than a comparable A/B. I don't think you can go wrong with a class d amp to power your sub. And of course:

class A/B is just less efficient n will draw more current than a D.
recommend D for subs as it's more convenient when addin more subs n stuff (diff output at diff impedance)

Re: 15'' D2 paired with class a/b amp

Class-D is VASTLY more efficient than a standard Class-A/B amplifier at daily listening levels... 1/3 power efficiency on an A/B is about 33% or so on average, whereas an average Class D is going to be about 60-70% or more. Most of the time you will be around this 1/3 power level... now at full output the get closer to the same level of efficiency, but the Class-D still wins by a decent margin. Overall... your electrical system will be MUCH better off with a Class-D... I'll give you an example:

I used to have an MA Audio MA5082HX... the most power I could get out of it in my car? About 1200-watts (measured the current draw). Why? Thats about 1/3 power... 33% efficient or so... the amp was drawing 3600 watts of total power to produce that.

Class-D amps do quite well on subs and I honestly don't hear a difference myself... my Visonik V2000T, MMATs D300HC, Linear Power 2.2HV, MA 5082HX, US Acoustics 2150, Visonik V800XD, and Soundstream Rubicon 702 all sounded about the same on sub duty. Differences could be attributed to power output levels. Honestly I'm liking the V2000T the most so far... very efficient for the power output, great crossovers, sound just as good as any of the others...

If there are any further questions I could try to help out. I can't claim to know it all but I've read a bit on the subject.
