    Icon14 IDMAX/IDQ -- Sound Quality or Thumpy?

Hey everyone, how's it goin'? =)

I was looking into a system and got these things so far:

    Dynaudio sides
    Phoenix Gold Ti Elite Amps

As far as the sub-woofers are concerned, I know that the amp I purchased is suitable for the IDMAX's, but I'm leaning towards the IDQ 12 inchers because of the few people I've talked to. I'm looking for super quality, clarity, and tone. Does the IDMAX provide that, or are they more boomy as opposed to providing great sound quality and tone? Any help and feedback would be greatly appreciated. Hope to hear from someone soon. =)

    -Robert

the idmax produces sound quility comparible with the JL w7

they also have great efficency so you dont need a crazy amp to power them

i would definatly recoment the idmax if you want awsome sq with good spl

im thinking of buying one myself

Re: IDMAX/IDQ -- Sound Quality or Thumpy?

What exactly is SPL? I looked it up and got Sound Pressure Level . Is SPL for the boom boom bass or bass that has super duper quality and tone? A brief comparison someone recently told me was that with the IDMAX you are going to sacrifice some of the sound quality and gain some power, whereas with the IDQ you will sacrifice some of the power but gain some of the sound quality. Does this sound about right to you guys? =)

Re: IDMAX/IDQ -- Sound Quality or Thumpy?

this is a standrad answer question i think.

basically there are a dozen or so 'super-subs' out there on the market. they can all do SPL and SQ, how well they do this being dependant on amplification, installation and quakity, build and size of enclosure housing the woofer. these factors are actually more important than the woofer itself. i see quite a few kids who buy, say, W7's and get real pi$$ed when they dont get the result they had hoped for and quite frankly, the wrong sized, badly made (home made ), leaking box, 8 gauge wiring and cheap amplification are hardly going to motivate your woofer to perform at its best are they.

anyhow, these supersubs are, in no particular order -

    JL Audio W7

    Stereo Integrity Magnum D2

    Image Dynamics IDMAX

    OZ Audio Matrix Power

    Digital Designs 9500

    Diamond Audio TDX

    Eclipse Ti

    RE X X X

    Adire Audio Brahma

these are all super-subs. the best of the best. all of these can yield excellent SQ results, with stomping authority and quality, providing the other installation criteria are well satisfied.

now i have personally owned and have heard around a half of those woofers, including the IDmax, RE X X X, DD9500 and the Magnum D2.

out of all those the only woofers that i shall never part with are my beloved Magnums and my DD9515.

all i will say is that a Magnum is everything an IDMax can be. it just happens that it is quite a bit cheaper too. and is the only driver that is good enough for a competition car owner who uses only genesis amplifiers, eton mids, audio control processing and a pioneer p9 deck

Alrighhh... So if I decide to go IDMAX, it will not only have equal or better sound quality, resposiveness, and tone as the IDQ, but more powerful as well?

"with the IDMAX you are going to sacrifice some of the sound quality and gain some power, whereas with the IDQ you will sacrifice some of the power but gain some of the sound quality."

    Is this true?

Re: IDMAX/IDQ -- Sound Quality or Thumpy?

Actually, yea, I have already purchased a Phoenix Gold Ti Elite amp for both the side speakers and woofers. I was talked into it after talking with some guys about why I shouldn't get the Alpine V12 I initially wanted =). They said the V12 was middle class and if I wanted to step it up a notch as far as quality and performance, to go with the Phoenix Ti Elite's. And so I did. But now my dilemma is with the woofers.

Will I be sacrificing sound quality and toneage by going with the IDMAX 12" as opposed to the IDQ 12"? Either way, I'm pretty sure either/or would be loud enough, but if I can get the extra power (IDMAX) without losing the sound quality (IDQ), well, all the better. I was planning to get one of em in the Dual 2 OHM setting, I just don't know which way to go. Professional feedback would be greatly appreciated. NEED BACKUP .

Re: IDMAX/IDQ -- Sound Quality or Thumpy?

idmax has amaizing SQ as good as the JL W7

plus you can run it off a weak amp and still get good SQ couse of the efficentcy

Re: IDMAX/IDQ -- Sound Quality or Thumpy?

Dizzigital, if you want to get it from an authorized dealer, here's two that i know of here in los angeles.

    Automobile Entertainment - 310.453.3541
    2401 Wilshire Blvd. Santa Monica

    HAAS Auto Stereo - 310.641.4700
    Culver City

I'm getting the ID10v.3 because ive heard that it sounds better the the IDQv2. I think the best place to get them is from sounddomain its $99.95 plus shipping. Get it from the dealer its $129 + tax, i'll ask them if they can match sounddomains price though.
