polyfil in my 1.5 sealed box.

i have a 15" l7. it is in a sealed 1.5 cu. feet sealed box. if i fill it w/ polyfil would it be louder and sound better? since it would make it think the box is bigger or no? and would it be noticable even?

Re: polyfil in my 1.5 sealed box.

Well Kyle from my experience with polyfill, it helps make the sub think there is more air than there is. With more air more the sub will sound better but not louder. Now this is only my opinion, you can always add the fill and see what happens. If you dont like it then take it out.

Box: Sealed .5 cu with no fill 1.5 cu will fill

Re: polyfil in my 1.5 sealed box.

On a related note, what is the proper method of installing polyfill? Do you stuff the entire enclosure, or should the polyfill be kept away from the basket and sub?
And Ive heard the 1 cu. ft. of air = 1 lb. of polyfill rule, so should that guide me in determining how dense to pack the box? Or is there some other guideline to follow?

You probably won't need that much, you should keep it away from the sub, if you're having lots of trouble keeping it away try some chicken wire. It helped my low end response quite a bit, which is what making the box bigger does.

Re: polyfil in my 1.5 sealed box.

I'd never seen pictures of polyfill being installed until today, when I found these. I'd always thought it was better to keep it separated from the sub, but this guy did not (and it looks like he knew what he was doing, given the complexity of his install).

Re: polyfil in my 1.5 sealed box.

Well i guess it doesn't really matter, but i would prefer to be safe, and avoid having my sub **** in a wad of polyfil.
