In a pure isobarik system, you have to power all 6 subwoofers identically. The gain you get is essentially you can reduce your box size by half, but you also lose a LOT of cone area (loss of output), added cost (two subwoofers will only be giving you the ouput of one).

There are a great deal of negatives about isobarik, all linked to cost and weight. If space is a very very very serious issue, then you can go this route, as it will cut your ideal box size in half, but you still have to power all 6 subs the same.

I'm not sure why you were recommended to go isobarik, perhaps if you asked him to elude into why you were being told this, he can explain. If you are after overall output (which with your having 6 subs, I'm assuming you are), then going isobarik can literally cut your output in half because of the nature of the design.

He claimed the subs would handle a lil bit more, and also because space is a big issue, since they are going into the trunk of a mustang along w/ 2 NOS tanks.

Them handling more power is false, but they will not need nearly as much room had you installed all six in their ideal enclosures. (half the space will be needed)
BUT, you have to power all six of them, three cannot just run as a pseudo-attempt at a passive radiator.
