Many of the smaller handheld and cheaper meters are only semi accurate up to about 150 dbs then they start giving out numbers that are way off

A friend of mine used a radioshack meter and it said that his 1 eclipse (the lowest model) hooked up to a NEON amp (just sittin in a box in his trunk) was hitting 152 db's...I felt bad being the one that had to break the news to him![]()

Provided you stay under 130, most are *pretty* decent, but if you use the "A" weighted scale, your SPL numbers are going to fall like a rock, because of the weighted filter that the meter has.Originally posted by dbhittin

If you are serious about getting metered, the better units to look for is a shop that has a Linear X setup, which are typically more true to the source (compared next to the reference B&K meters) than the audio control units are.

excuse me if i understood wrong but eclipses(even the lowest model) slam. i am only saying this having owned 2 12s. i am not saying that the reading was accurate (as i also would not think it was correct and it probable was not) what i am getting at is that eclipse makes a very, very good product.one of the top brands in my eyes.i just wanted to give my opinion because i was not sure if you were dogging eclipse along with the radio shack pos. sorry if i understood wrong
nope, wasn't doggin eclipse...I'm a big fan of their products and that particular install did hit really hard, but although it was loud, it was no 150db+![]()
