difference between old xxx and new xxx

are there any differences between the old and new xxx other than asthetics? if i bought an old xxx and blew it could i get it reconed like the new xxx? im thinking the differences are like the the brahma mk I and II: mainly asthetic changes with minor performance upgrades but if you blow a mk I it cant be reconed. any help appreciated; thanks!

Yes I would really like to know this as well.. .to me it looks like the magnet was somehow changed and the design on the sub's face... but I'm not an expert on that.. .I've only seen a new one in person, I'd imagine its a lil better than the older one tho (I was blown away, loudest sub I've ever heard)

Re: difference between old xxx and new xxx

the new XXX has a revised motor that raised the BL to 17 T*m and has flattened out the BL curve even more than it was before......., thus Qes and Qts went down just a bit, making it just a bit more suitable for ported enclosures........also the newer cone weighs a bit more due to the increase in rigidity and structural integrity, thus Fs went down a few Hz

overall, efficiency remaind pretty constant, but SQ has jumped up a bit

how'd you blow an XXX with a D2, don't they only put out 2000watts??? An XXX handles 2000watts easily. How did you blow it?

they can put out over 3000W. plus i said in a free-air setup, which makes it much easier for the xxx to reach xmax. now, maybe it can handle it for burps, i've never messed with a xxx, or a d2, but i'm sure that if that was your daily driver with the gain all the way up, you'd fry it.

I'm pretty sure you could fry an XXX like that.

If I remember correctly, teamPSI (an RE employee) said that it is possible to get the old XXX reconed to a new XXX.

Ive had both XXXs. Lower end isnt there as much but its a tad bit louder, hella more accurate, better sq, flatter response, ect.

yea david said you can put a new XXX cone on the old XXX motor, but that won't make it a new XXX, since the new XXX has a slightly revised motor that yields a flatter BL curve, something which a new coil configuration won't change
