Hey All,
I bought an Eclipse Titanium back in April and installed it in a fairly small sealed enclosure (although calculated/recomended size). I am very satisfied, the SQ and the SPL has been very nice. I also have a pretty good amp, that definately does not underpower it - US Acoustics 1000D - 750w RMS is the full RMS for that sub. It has been working out great.
Sealed sounds good and hits pretty hard, but I just want a little more. Adding another sub would mean that I would be pushing 1500w RMS on my stock alternator and battery, and really I don't want to make that upgrade. So my plans had become this: port the 12" Eclipse Titanium, but do it geared towards SQ still. My attempt would be to make it just as clear and accurate, just louder. This wouldn't even be a big box, I think I came up with 1.5cuft before deplacement, so like 1.7cuft, ported at the hz that I would find after testing the cars resonant frequency.
But then an offer came across my table for a IDMAX 12 D2 v2 - for 225$ shipped. I was wondering what the general consensus is between these 2 subwoofers. Initially it would be in a 1cuft sealed enclosure (maybe I would make a 1.3cuft - which is recommended) and it would be run off of the same amp, except @ 1 ohm. It would recieve 1000w RMS @ 1 ohm and the amp is stable at 1ohm and puts out 1250w. What do you think:
Both sealed, which has the edge in SQ and SPL?
Running the US Acoustics 1000w @ 1 ohm, is it safe?
What if I went ahead with my project and ported them, geared towards loud SQ, which would have the advantage?
Would I be able to tell which would preform better ported by hearing them sealed?
Also, is $225 shipped a good price - aprox 10 months of use, this is v2 not the new v3 (which goes for $319 new, plus shipping).
THANKS A LOT!
