New here, need a quick opinion

Hey everyone... I've been reading these forums for quite a while but have never posted, but i need help

alright i have an opti 1000.1 for power, just sold my perfects and want something better... I'm limited for space and budget so i wanna stick under 200 bucks per sub, and as small as possible box size (in my cavalier) perferably sealed... I've done some research on here and have come down to either the ED O-series, or the RE SE.. any other opinions are more than welcome

Re: New here, need a quick opinion

If you're choosing between those two (which are both excellent choices) I think that it depends on what you are looking for as far as sound as to which one is best for you.

The SE will get louder than the O and still sound great, but the O will have an edge in sound quality.

If I had to choose, I would go with the SE's just becasue I like my bass quite loud...and they will still sound great doing it. However, in a SQ application the O's might better fit you.

To get full potential out of either though, sealed is not the best box, I belive (and someone correct me if I'm wrong) that the O's sound BEST in an IB setup, and the SE's are BEST suited for ported. So with that in mind, you may look into other subs, however I'm sure both would still be an upgrade and sound terrific even when sealed.

Hope this helps...if any thing I've said is wrong someone let me know, but this is my understanding on those subs

Re: New here, need a quick opinion

Thanks for the help... I know i should go ported on the SE's but I have a small car and i need a little bit of trunk space... 1.5 cf per sub is about as far as i can go... have you or anyone heard what the SE's sound like sealed compared to ported?

Also it doesn't have to be strictly between the two... if someone has a better idea let me know I'm open minded

Sorry everyone for another post about which sub do i choose...

I have yet to hear either of those brands but from what I hear (several forums) they are definately worth the money.

My suggestion is, since you already have an Opti amp why not get Opti subs.

Re: New here, need a quick opinion

You will be more than happy with either of those subs I am sure....I was just putting down the optimal enclosure for each one. Both of those subs are worth every penny...if you want something louder go with the SE's and if you want more SQ then I'd go with the O's.

Now...I dont' know that you would want to do this, but you may also consider one sub that is larger. For some reason I get the picture taht you're talking about 12's, but I don't know why. Anyways, if you are then you may want to consider just a single 15 like an ed A or possibly an XXX, you could then port it and possibly get more output.

I don't know if any of this helps you, but I wish you luck on whatever you do....and you won't be disappointed in any of the subs that you've narrowed it down to as of now

Re: New here, need a quick opinion

Okay, I've made my decision... I'm going to get 1 E12o and 1 RE SE 12.............. JK

Yes I was talking about 12s... the E15a ported would have been a possibility if it was possible for me to get one. Unless you want to sell me yours I'm also open to any other 15 that (vented) would be equal to or better than two of the ones i said...

Basically I want a daily driver thats capable of hitting the mid 140s (or higher) with decent SQ... If the O's can do this that would be cool... However the O's are recommended 1.5cf sealed, I'd almost make the sacrifice and port the SE's with a little more space.
The MOST possible space I am willing to give up is 15x16x32, which is quite a bit but I would really like some room in my trunk for trips and such

One last question, how much of a difference will there be in SPL and SQ of a ported and sealed SE

    Thanks for the help guys...

Re: New here, need a quick opinion

Well i can tell u i have a 2.5 ft^3 box sealed with my 2 10" SE's. 1200+ watts from a jbl 1200.1. These suckers get SO loud man. Nobody can believe theyr just 2 10's. Anyways i havent heard the O's but i would definetly get the SE's because they have much potential to get really loud as well the new SE's have even better SQ than the old ones. If u dont think Sealed is loud enough for u then u can always port them, rather with the O's u cant port them

    Upcoming SQ competition ready install...
    -Eclipse cd8053
    -Image Dynamics Cd1Pro MH
-Image Dynamics 6.5" mids with CX motors and poly cone in custom fiberglass kick panels
-12" Stereo Integrity Magnum in large sealed fiberglass wheel well enclosure.
-Viper d1200.1 (sub), Viper 400.2 (mids), David Navone Amp-100 (horns)

Re: New here, need a quick opinion

A single boston won't get the full potential of my amp... and 300 is a little steep for this college guy....

I think Capone makes a good point... if i really don't think they're loud enough sealed i can always make a ported box...

I've seen alot of people love their 15a, its really too bad you can't get em for a while... I'm sick of not having any bass in my car
