    e12a.... too much power?

i ordered my e12a and the 1100db amp(which supposively puts out 1200ish watts), but i dont know what kind of box to do... vented is not recomended to have any more than 1000w going to it, but even alittle lower is alittle better, or sealed i could send more power to it and overpower it without too much worry.... if i turned my gains way down and ran it vented is there still going to be a big difference in output from giving it part power in vented or alot more power sealed?

The only reason that going over 1000w is not recommended when porting is because of the risk of damaging the driver from overexcursion below tuning. I believe the 1100db has a subsonic filter, so as long as you have that enabled below tuning, I say go for it...

i was thinking tho.... sealed would take up less room, and would give me more of the punchy bass.... and with that amount of power is there going to be a big difference in the output since it would really be pushing the sub? also, how would i enable the subsonic filter?

just tune the box to 25hz or so this would be hella ****** and not much plays below 25ish. that way the sub moves less than normal and you can send the RMS to them w/o worry of blowing the surround or spider. just make sure your VC doesnt get stanky

The ported enclosure is definitely going to have noticeably more output. It will also have less distortion, because above tuning, the driver won't be excurting all that far.

If you just want balanced musical listening and not absurd bass output, I'd just stick with sealed, but if you want the extra output, then port it.

will i lose alot of punch from going to vented? im used to having subs sealed, and i like the punch, or will vented punch near what sealed will?

    Re: e12a.... too much power?

a correctly tuned vented box will outperform a sealed by an average or 3db within a one-half to three-quarter octave area near tuning frequency..

small words (MORE PUNCH, POUND, KABOOM, etc)

and in the instance of the A series woofer.. sound as good as it would in a sealed alignment..

    Re: e12a.... too much power?

I checked the eD site and they say itll handle 1400 wrms in the recommended vented box.

    http://www.edesignaudio.com/ep2/12a.htm

Dont know if its correct becuase I can remember a day when it wasnt that high.

    Re: e12a.... too much power?

i dont see where it says it can handle 1400w vented, i just see where it says "We highly suggest capping power input at 1000 watts to the 12a in this enclosure"(vented)... but if i have my gains down i should be fine right?

    Re: e12a.... too much power?

Ok i see where your getting that from.

Anyway I doubt youll have a problem if the gains are kept down.

Just about every person with an A series is giving it more than 1kw. At least thats what Ive seen.
