    need help bad...

Im driving home from school today and my sub goes out, no sound. I think 'no big deal, its happened before, it was just the ground cable slipping out of the amp'. so i get home, check it out...its still in there, secure. all the other wires are in there. the amp still powers up, but no sound at all. recheck wiring to the sub. its good (didnt check in the box, i will soon). now im mad. i check under the hood, the fuse is fine (i figured, as the amp was powering up (no protection light either)). I pull the headunit out to check to make sure the RCAs are still hooked up. its fine. put the headunit back in and turn on the car. now the headunit doesnt power up. AH!!!!! what is going on, now i have NOTHING to listen to....please help with any ideas.

what box? and i will check the RCAs, but the headunit should still work. i talked to a guy today (who works at circuit city lol, but actually is knowledgable) said same stuff happened to him once, and actually the power wire from the battery to the headunit was grounding out and he had to run a new one. i hope i dont have to do that.

Alright first of all if you have a profile amp for JL subs thats your first problem. Ive seen profile go to hell before. Go get yourself an ALPINE or even a Kenwood. You have nice subs and you ruin everything with that weak a$$ amp. Take it back go kenwood, alpine, for christ sake go xploid

profile isn't the best but they're not bad amps. the clarus series really isn't all that bad. i've unfortunately had the opportunity of using a sony "1000" watt amp for a little while, and had the clarus 900 watt rms amp, and the clarus was loads better than the sony. and neither alpine or kenwood make the best amps either. they make good amps but both companies have definately stronger points in what they produce (ie alpine HU's)
its best to realize that if your opinion is different from someone elses as far as taste in amplifiers, doesn't mean that you're automatically right.

    Re: need help bad...

just take everything out and put it back together. that might help. the problem for ur amp and sub could most likely be (if one isnt blown) ur ground. dont matter how tight it feels, it could be all messed up from corosion. take it and put it to bare metal on the body (even the seat buckles, mounts, strut mount screws arent always the best). and as for ur head unit, disconect ur battery and unhook the amp and then reconnect ur battery and see if it works. if it does than hook up ur amp and if it goes out again, than u have a bad amp or sub. and also check the wiring harness, and use crimp connecters if there not already on there.
