Sub and Amp combo for truck

I am going to be getting a sub and amp soon for my truck and I don't really know what to get. I was thinking maybe a JL 12w3v2 and JL 250/1 amp but I am leaning towards getting it at a store and getting it installed there and if I did that it would set me back about $600 just for those two things, without a box, which is a lot of money. I listen to mostly rock, like Grateful Dead, Phish, moe, 311, and some other stuff and occasionally some hip hop like The Roots, Talib Kweli, Common, etc. I am not looking for something incredibly loud, more like mostly SQ but the ability to be pretty loud at the same time, if that's possible.

Also, do you want upfiring or firing into teh seat or what type of box ?

The truck is a Nissan Hardbody 4x4 extended cab.

ouch. if you must get it installed by someone try to get a friend to do it and give em 20-40 bucks if they want it. and please dont BUY fromt eh local shop. you could get a JBL 1200.1 and 2 150 dollar subs for 600 bucks. you could even get a decent box from a local pawn shop for 50 bucks. i got a 3/4" MDF 2.5 cubes per chamber carpeted box for 40 bucks at mine. pawn shop here also sells MA Audio, MBQuart, and are ordering ED believe it or not. they are cool guys, one of them posts at hardforums

for best bet would probably be facing the box forwards for all kinda of reasons .... b4 i got a bedcut i had them facing upwards and towards my seat. towards the seat gave you more feel to it and the seat seemed to muffle out any centercap noice my old HED vegas had. it also seemed louder. facing upwards i got that air movement instead of bass feelings and i could hear the centercap rattle every now and then.

if you face them forward u can also set stuff on top of the box, and its a lot sturdier and wotn topple everywhere. if your afraid of someone poking something into them you might be able to fit them facing backwards and lettign it echo off the cab. just try each way, thats how you really tell

Thats been the most effective that I've seen as far as being loud... but facing them forward into the seats is probably the best for SQ

I was thinking more like 300 watts, not 1200. And I just want one sub because I cant take up all the spave , or at least I dont want to.

I just want good sounding bass to fill out the sound.

hmmm i would get an ED K. That would be like 120 bucks. Then get a 400 watt amp. Port the sub in like a 2 CuFt box tuned to 30hz or so. that would be much more awesome than a w3. There should be some avinoxx amps that would power a single K for cheap. www.edesignaudio.com
