What subs for 98 f150 standard cab?

Just got a 98 f150 standard cab for my work truck. Was going to do 4 concept 8's but i dont think i want to do that now. Was think about 2 12's now... Any suggestions on a couple of good 12's that i could fit behind the seat? Im going to be running a AQ2200d. I havent measured behind my seats yet but i would guess at floor i have about 10-11 inches and near top i have around 6 maybe?

That sounds like a good match. Or some RE SEs or Incriminator lethal injections.

Memphis has some newer shallow mount subs, they wang for being so thin. I would go with a pair of those.

maybe some dc lvl 3 12s, but they are 6.75" deep while the AQ's are 6.5, and i just looked up the LI's and they are 7" deep so i dont think thats gonna work well

So how deep do you think i can go? I need to get a box made because im not that skilled lol. Had fisher make my last one. Did a wonderful job... and only lives a few hours away. The AQ's are very well priced. But they say they are only rated at 600rms.... Are they underrated?

How tall can your box be? You should be able to fit a sub with 7'' mounting depth if you keep it close to the bottom of the box I would imagine. Mine is 10'' bd x 7'' td x 20'' tall and my 10'' DC lv4xl fits no problem, it is 6.5'' deep.

Re: What subs for 98 f150 standard cab?

If you aren't after all out SPL the SI Mag V4 would work pretty well. It is only 5.5" deep and only needs 4.5" of mounting depth. I also is a sealed box woofer which would allow for a smaller enclosure, you would only need 2 cubes to fit 2 in there, or less if you use polyfill. You could also look at the JL, RE and other shallow mount drivers, however the SI probably offers the bets combo of mounting depth, SQ and price at only $249 shipped. If you want more info on it just visit their site.

Re: What subs for 98 f150 standard cab?

With those dimensions that you supplied you're looking at an internal volume of roughly 2.5 ft^3. I'm just wondering if you took into account how far out the sub(s) sticks out from the enclosure when you posted those depth measurements? Remember that most subs stick out at least .75" from the mounting surface and then they typically need at least an extra .5" for clearance. But it really depends on if you want to move your seat up while driving or not.

Keep in mind that you can fit two 12's in that enclosure very well. You could also use a smaller enclosure (one around 2 ft^3) and still use a pair of sealed 12's. You could also fit three 12's in there if you found some that required small sealed enclosures and you stuffed it with polyfill.

It would take two ported 10's or four sealed 10's to equal the output from a pair of sealed 12's (typically). With the way that some companies are selling subwoofers you would have to add all of the 'options' to a pair of 10's that were/are rated to handle a lower amount of power than what you are going to use which may negate any cost savings that you might be thinking about. Two or three 12's is the way that I would go. That way you'll have lots of output all over the subwoofer bandwidth (sealed boxes typically play lower on the extreme low end than ported boxes do) and you'll have an easier enclosure to build.
