    Need sub advice

Hi guys, new to the forum.

I'm trying to downgrade a bit to recover some space in a new vehicle.

    I have a P6001 seen here: Ok I have a : http://www.crutchfield.com/S-KDn3QEV...nch-P6001.html

    300w X 1 at 4ohm (RMS)
    600w X 1 at 2ohm (RMS)

What I'm looking for is a really good single 10 in a box...12 at the most but would rather keep it small.

Anything you guys can suggest to match up well to this amp? Being a single sub only setup.
    Single or dual voice coil?
    2 or 4 ohm?

I just want to get the best match possible without sacrificing too much in sound.

    Thanks.

    Re: Need sub advice

Wow I was expecting to have to pay at least twice that.

Its a good match for the P6001 though? Being that I'm only going with a single sub setup?

I was kicking around the idea of one of these but I just dont know enough these days to make an informed decision yet.

Ok I'm game to give this RE a try. Been reading a bit and it seems to have pretty good reviews and you definately cant beat the price.

How is this for a box for it?

    Re: Need sub advice

That box will be fine, but obviously you are not gonna get the sound out of it that you should as if you built your own box...but here are some suggestions

You might wanna also try this box...it's the same box, but in 3/4" MDF..thats a pretty beefy sub youd be better off the 3/4"
    http://www.rickiesdiscountelectronic...ure-17011.html

Here are the optimal enclosure sizes from the RE site
    http://reaudio.com/specs.html#sp_se

The optimal size for sealed is 1cubic ft
and this sealed box below is 1.05cubic ft that is pretty close
    http://www.rickiesdiscountelectronic...ure-17036.html

If you go with the first box you listed youll be somewhere in the middle between compact and optical for the ported box

    I hope this helps you...

Thanks I think I'll order that sealed box and the RE sub when they open next. Hopefully Friday if they are open any more this week with the holidays, I'll give em a call on Friday morning.

focal 33v1. 13 inch sub that does well in very small ported boxes. i put one in 1.25 cubes ported. less than alot of 10's.

    Ummm......no.
First off, that first box you listed is WAY WAY WAY to small for an SE12 ported.
Secondly, that second box you listed was for a 10".

    For a ported SE12, RE reccomends a 2.0ft3, for sealed it's 1ft3, AFTER displacement.... which is .15ft3 for SE12.

I would NOT reccomend getting a prefab ported enclosure. A prefab sealed enclosure is OK, try this one for sealed.

    or

Either of these will put you right at RE specs.

    Re: Need sub advice

That was a mistake on the first box i listed...i just posted wrong link by accident GregU
    Here is the correct link:
    http://www.rickiesdiscountelectronic...ure-17037.html

And obviously the ported box isnt exactly the right size....you're not gonna get a good ported box with a prefab it has to be made yourself...you are not just gonna happen to find one with the right size ports or vents or one thats tuned to the frequency you need...a sealed box is a sealed box if it is made of 3/4" MDF and it is pretty close to the optimal enclosure size then it should be fine....or compact if you have less truck space

And you are correct GregU on the ported/vented box that i had listed it was my mistake it is only 1.08cu ft and it recommends on the RE Site 1.5 cu ft for compact and 2 cu ft for optimal enclosure size......it was late the night when i posted and i mistakenly thought it said 1.80 cu ft instead of 1.08 cu ft

Go with the sealed box that i listed in this post i accidentally posted the 10" version in my earlier post instead of the 12" box

The first box you listed was for a 1ft3 ported..... no where near 2ft3.
The second box you listed was for a 10, understanding you clicked the wrong one. Read carefully, it's not a 3/4" sealed enclosure, just the front panel is. The other 5 panels are 5/8" Not trying to be a ****, i just want the man to be happy with his RE. If he must get a prefab ported, than there's plenty out there closer to 2ft3. I think 1ft3 ported would be totally disgusting.

Yeah i realized that i was just saying that cause some people dont like to order from multiple places and it's not that bad of a box...ive owned some Qpower boxes like that one and they really aernt that bad of boxes for the money and for being a prefab, but then again i didn't have this sub in it...but ur right he will probably be better off with the full 3/4" box..

the only reason i mentioned the other box there is like i said earlier i know when i purchase something online i usually like to buy from the same place when i make like a box and subwoofer purchase, it's just easier

But i guess if they dont have exactly what you need you have to purchase the box elsewhere

You are deff right about the 1 cu ft ported enclosure it would prob sound horrible

Yeah, I've seen some larger vented boxes on ebay that are very well built, but there like $125..... and it's still a prefab. Your right about never being a good idea buying a prefab ported.

    Re: Need sub advice

Well ****, learned something new today. I didnt realize that when you went ported it has to be "tuned" to the speaker. I thought you just went with appropriate volume for either sealed and ported and all boxes created equal kind of thing.

Ok obviously I need some more advice on whether to go sealed or ported. Most of my music is like Linkin Park type stuff but I do enjoy dropping in something with a little bass and being able to have that nice drop and pound on it for a while.

Which should I go with and if I go ported...how the hell do I find a box built properly?
