    2 Shallow mount subs for .5-.75 cu - 500rms@2

Not even sure if it's possible or if I'll go this route, just kinda toying with the idea.

I'd like to do a shallow mount sub setup in either side of my trunk wells (space is very limited, I would be hard pressed to get .75cu each).

I'd prefer 12's, but may be limited to 10's with the space.

    Amp will do 500rms @ 2 ohms.

    SQL is my goal.

I had the same problem with space, being limited to under seat enclosure in the back of an F150 Supercrew Ford. I have 3 girls, and cannot give up the back seat at all. Didnt want to yank out the center console either. So, I did some research and came up with a couple of different options.

    1. Image Dynamics ID10v3's - Need .6cu each in a sealed enclosure I believe. I actually bought these, and I love them. Sound good, plenty of thump, and great bass. Doesn't get crazy low, and doesn't get crazy loud, but sound is superb. Have a JL Audio 500/1 powering them.

    2. Diamond Hex Shallow Mount - These are about $200 or so a piece, and I have yet to hear them, but have had a couple of people tell me they sound very good.

    3. Kicker CVT's (I believe they are) 10" - Never heard em, I usually stay away from Kicker through just a personal experience. I am sure they are a decent sub, but not my cup of tea.

Am I looking at the right one? The only ID10 v3 I can find on their site is 5.5" mounting depth.

Yeah the IDQ is a 5.5 mounting depth but they are very efficient in small boxes.
that means you can make the box 6 inches deep! thats nothing.
I would seriously look into those. their awesome and they will take 600 watts daily

    Yes and no ....

Mounting depth changes when you pop the magnet cover off. These things have a magnet cover that just pops off, do a search and I think you can get a pic of em. I popped mine off, and it gave me about 5.25 or right there at. 6" deep box is nothing, rest assured, and when I first heard them, I could not believe my ears.

the MA Audio shallow 10's are very impressive...and much better built than most shallow subs....plus they can be had for about $100 each

If I do this idea, I'm limited to about 4.5" depth.

There's another SS guy that actually has box plans I can use that'll give about .65cu ft.

Basically it's just a press-fit side panel in my trunk and on the backside of the panel is a box. I was thinking of using fiberglass on the backside to get a little more airspace.

Here's a few photos from his page..

Looks like you could get a lot more depth and volume if you go down the glass fibre route.
If you get another 1" depth right where the magnet will sit you will open up many posibilities of speaker.

To glass or not to glass... that is the question

Check out the Clarion shallow mount 10's, the PFW 1051's....3" mounting depth is all that's needed. I've had really good luck with these subs for customers that are limited on space......

    Alex JB,

The back wall of the "box" is actually already within .5" or so of the inside of the quarter panel.

One thought I had was to build a panel exactly like the other guy did, with a square box but then use a couple short dowels and a ring to build the sub out a little bit from the panel.

Then I could do all the glass work outside and away from the car. Just how stupid would it look though. lol

check out the corvette build in the logs, he is building his first install and is making a really nice all glass box and brought his W7 out with a ring, stretched fleece over it then glassed it.

You don't need to go as all out as him and I'm sure there's many other nice versions of this on here but that was just one that came to mind, check it out.
