New install - not what I wanted. Advice please

So I just installed my first Amp and sub in the trunk of my 2004 sebring convertible. The amp and sub are rated at 300W 4 ohms

    I installed this amp:
    http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Produ...MRPM500&tp=115

    and this sub:
    http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Produ...8XSLB12&tp=112

They are installed in my trunk. It sounds decent when the trunk is open, but as soon as I close the trunk I can barelry hear the sub at all, even with the gain turned all the way up, music loud, etc. Is the problem with the equipment I am using, or does my car just have a soundproof trunk?

I am either going to figure out a wa to mount the sub inside the car, or I am gonig to return the sub and try to find a dual coil sub so I can take advantage of the full power from my amp (rated 500W at 2 Ohms, only 300 at 4 ohms.)

    What should I do?

I would say the biggest issue is the fact that you have a convertible. The "pocket" that your top drops into will block a lot of the sound coming into the cabin area.

was gona say that, theres metal bracing to stiffen the chassis behind the seat thats blocking the sound.
