how much power can I run

I have a 1997 ford taurus with a stock alt. I want to run about 700 watts plus some neon lights along with my after market cd player.

first...is that 700 watts peak or rms....it really shouldn't matter b/c i think that you'll be fine on power but i'm not too knowledgable about how much power those neon lights take....as long as they don't draw over 50-60a you should be fine b/c your amp if it's 700 rms will be taking about 60a already and the hu won't take many... you should be fine

with everything going at night time, you shouldnt have any dimming problems or anything. if you DO have any sort of dimming... it will be if everything is on and you are listening to it loud, but even then, the dimming should very minute, if anything.

    good luck.

Thanx. Neon lights are ileagle to drive with so those would not be on while I am driving. Was more worried about the subs. 700 will be RMS. Was also going to get a capacitor and a Optima Yellow top Battery( Heard they are nice).

First off, check under the hood and see what amperage your alt puts out. Second, what type of amp/amps are you using and what's their efficiency? There's an simple formula to find out if you'll need a bigger alternator. Don't bother with a cap, a battery would help, but for the money for a new battery and a cap you could've bought a new 160 amp alt.

Oh..and I forgot to mention, why? WHY?! why would you put neons on a ford taurus? It's hard to get much ricier than that, especially on a car that's got a soccer mom reputation. It will get you laughed at more than admired, trust me..

the main thing is not the watss but the current draw. Just look for an amp with a low amp fuse, that means it draws less power.
