actual ED EHQS8 specs

Of course it has come out that the ed specs were wrong. Does anyone have all of the actual measured specs of the 2 and 4 ohm variants? What about box requiremnts?

Just because somebody measures different parameters in his house setup does NOT mean that they are the correct parameters. A test setup for measuring parameters needs to be set up perfect in order to consistent and accurate. It's possible that ED didn't measure them correctly and it's possible that this Joe Random isn't correct as well. You can look at the Qes, Qms, and Qts values and see that even they are wrong (if Qes and Qms are correct, Qts is wrong and this could go with any of the three).

They are referencing the fs spec. Someone here has been testing one the past few days around here (forget who) and found eD's spec to be way off.

No speaker, in the history of speakers, has ever been blown by too little power. Ever. I don't care what your friend told you, he's a dirty liar.

It actually isn't that difficult to get somewhat accurate results... as in, close to mfr specs. With my WT1, I figure anything within 10% +/- of mfr specs. is hitting close enough. Coincidently, the only driver I've ever measured that has been grossly out of spec was an eD driver...

As for the person who took measurements on the EHQS 8", well; this is what he posted on ICIX:

I just measured a few of the EHQS 8s and got some bad news when I measured their Fs. ED claims 32 hz on their site but here's what I measured:

    Sample #1 - 50 hz. Fs, 49 hz. after short break-in

    Sample #2 - 51 hz. Fs, 50 hz. after short break-in

    Not good

I then grabbed a Dayton RS150 and measured it to see if my measurement setup was acting up. The RS150 was only a few hz. off of Dayton's spec so I know it was good.

To give you an idea of the type of impact this has if you build a single sealed enclosure of 1 ft3 here's what you yield:

    32 hz Fs = -3 dB 47 hz, -10 dB 28 hz
    50 hz Fs = -3 dB 74 hz, -10 dB 44 hz

This was for a single 2 ohm driver. I'm not sure how the 4 ohm drivers measure.
The difference between 32Hz and 50Hz is unacceptable in my book -- even for a $5 woofer. $ .49 NSB's spec'd out closer than that...

Haha, wow, that is pretty far off. Still, I wouldn't put too much validity in either ED's or this guy's stuff.

Is it bad that the mids I plan on using in my HT have a lower FS and larger voice coil?
