    FI Q 10" + Hifonics 1606D + Sealed Box loud enough?

Ok, so I'm thinking about getting a 10" FI Q-series sub (or maybe BL? not sure), and pairing it with a Hifonics 1606D amp. It seems to be a fairly popular combo, and I've heard good things about it (though the Hifonics has mixed reviews...) I have a few questions though - one, should I get the dual 1-ohm and run it at 2 ohms, giving it roughly 1000 watts RMS from the 1606D, or get the dual 2-ohm and run it at 1, giving it ~1400 WRMS (supposedly the amp is a little overrated, so I'm going a little low with the estimated power)? Then, if I put it in a sealed box and give it about .6 cu. ft. of enclosure, how hard is it going to hit, and how loud will it be? I know there are no exact answers to be had, but I listen to a lot of drum and bass, so I want something I can really shake my own windows with - but not necessarily the windows of the cars on the other side of the intersection. Am I going to be satisfied? I'm on a budget, so I'd rather not spend a few hundred bucks to have someone design and build a box for me, but I'm confident that I can handle building a sealed box. Alternatively, how hard would it be to tune and design a ported box? I'm a college engineer, so I can probably figure it out, but I'm not overly confident. Finally, if I did design a ported box, does anyone know what frequency I should tune for? The car is a Subaru STi, if that helps. Thanks in advance.

go ported, I would imagine around 32-34hz, I know u probably want it loud if your getting a FI

I love the lows and the force u get from vented boxes, just use one of moe lesters plans they are really good and if your in college u should no problem drawing out your pieces and then just cut them out

after that its just gluing and screwing and its done

Ok, I think I'm going to go with ported - designing the box doesn't sound too hard, and it'll be worth it.

My only remaining question is, should I go with 1 ohm or 2 ohm for the sub? ~1400 vs 1000 watts. Pros and cons?

For that amp, go with a Dual 2 ohm sub. With the BP power option the sub can handle a little over 1000 w rms.

def go with dual 2 and run the sub at 1 ohm. If you want a little bit louder of a sub pick the BL. the Q does sound great tho

    Re: FI Q 10" + Hifonics 1606D + Sealed Box loud enough?

I'm sure the Q will be more than loud enough, and I've heard that the SQ on the Q is better.

Is the BP Power option that important? As in, is it worth $40?

Q ported still isnt too big of an enclosure (vs sealed). Only issue you will have is trying to get enough port area on the 10. Try to radius the inner and outer edges of the port to keep flow up and noise down.
