Yeah, bandpass enclosures center their outputs to a limited number of frequencies, and maybe the weird sounds start when you hit the Hz that's not in the peak bandwidth or something... of course, if that bandpass is made really, really, really well, then maybe it's something else.

Also, i'd say ditch the bandpass, cause that's the problem with bandpass when it comes to lows. They get loud, but the sound quality drammatically decreases unless the box is built for the subs. I'd say take the subs out of the box and run them free-air on a low amp setting(enough to move them the same inside the box) and see if you can still hear the rattles. Or you could just build a sealed/ported box and try them in there.
Oh, and 1000w RMS for 250w RMS subs? I think maybe you need to re-calculate the numbers to see if it's alright...
