Icon32 Itsy bitsy teensie weensie sub needed.

What is the SMALLEST sub our there which is actually good? I have a 1999 Miata and stealth is a concern for all audio stuff going in it. Trunk space must be kept so the only possible sub space is the passenger seat footwell. Can this be done or am I kidding myself?

My current leaning is towards an Eclipse CD3432 + CDT Classic Components 6.5" with a US Acoustics 2 X 100 WPC RMS amp. Any comments or suggestions to improve this system or to validate my thinking are appreciated in advance.

My second choices in each would be a Alpine 9805 + Boston Acoustics 8 X 8 Rally Components with either an Eclipse or an Alpine amp.

My cost goal is $700.00 including professional installation with a top end of $1K. The idea of a DIY is probably out due to work schedule and the complication of nothing being plug and play due to the Bose.

Thanks to all for the advice and please keep it coming.

    PEACE

    Eclipse CD3432 HU, Memphis ST3004 75 X 4 amp, CDT 6.5" classic components, CDT MS-80 sub, 2 Aura bass shakers...all in a 1999 Mazda Miata.

Wouldn't the mounting depth of the W7 not fit under ANY seat?

There's supposed to be this trick bose system...relatively flat... or get a bass shaker... might notgive you the tunes, but will give you the rattles when the bass hits...

Excuse me, but I'm not familiar with that ride. Is there 1.5" around where the seat is mounted or 1.5" all the way up under the seat? If there is more depth up under the seat, you might be able to build the box, but have to take out the seat to install it and then replace the seat. I have seen some custom work, not on this vehicle, where they build the sub enclosue into the seat and make it one.

Nah bubba nah...I would have to measure it when I wake it up about 1 March but there is now ay to put it under the seat.

I have seen a couple where it goes in the passenger side footwell in a sloped box which is matched to the factory carpet and then the floor mat covers that. The problem is you lose a lot of legroom.

The only thing I have seen that looks acceptable is the Kenwood WOOX but it barely goes deeper than the CDT's I plan on putting in.

I'm thinking if there is a STRONG SQ 6" out there anywhere it would work or a very shallow 8".

    haha POS boxes...

Dude, I'd have to say you might need to spend a little more than $1000 if you're gonna pay someone to install the subwoofer under your passenger seat, because chances are, they're gonna have to cut a little bit into the frame. This can be risky, but whatever. And 1.5" of clearance (inches, right?) is not enough for anything to move down there. Maybe if you took out the flooring completely and had a professional custom fit a fiberglass enclosure that went around a well of some sort, you would have enough volume for a box, but it's hard to say because a lot of us don't know the car well at all (including me).

I would just buy the best set of components that will fit and give them a lot of power and sound deadening material. Could these go in the doors or maybe a set of custom kickpanels? In your situation, you're screwed when it comes to real bass.

Blaupunkt saucer subwoofer may do the job. 8W7 is impracticle, and requires a 1cuft box(!). Perhaps get some koda's in your doors and cross them lower (say, to 40hz or so)
should give you plenty of impact.

Is this not a reasonable place to park?
