but you will NEVER use the extra 10mm of Xmax at 42Hz ....

How about using the sub the has a stronger motor for a ported enclosure...

With this logic you might as well get a sub with 3MM of Xmax since it does not seem to matter. All I'm saying is that the TC2000 will have the ability to move 50% more air which is a large difference. Why do the subs that I have owned reach their Xmax in ported boxes at many frequencies? I know that it is not the most important spec on a sub but when comparing two similar subs you might as well go with the one that has more potential. He is going to want it loud and low, otherwise he would not be getting a 15inch sub in a ported box.

This is where my technical understanding trails off...I wish I could explain myself, but basically the post above yours up here states why the *additional* Xmax won't matter much.

For the box that he is wanting to use and depending on the amount of power and exact tuning the TC9 is probably the better choice but ppl like to dismiss the amount of air a sub can move.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Xmax alone does not define the amount of air a sub can move in a ported enclosure.

    Re: POLL: TC9 or TC2000 15"

This is all very very true around tuning but the further away from tuning you get the less the port plays a part. So if you have a box that it tuned to 24hz the further away from 24hz you get the more actuall sub movement is needed to reach higher volumes similar to a sealed box. This is why very low tuned boxes do not offer that much more output and more of a flat response. I have a tc3k in a box tuned to 33hz, I can blast it with a ton of watts around this freq and the sub is barely moving but it is crazy loud, as I move above tuning the more the sub moves and the more it moves the louder it gets. My older Brahma I could reach Xmax at 40 hz but could not get close to reaching full excursion around tuning.
