    8 8"s vs 1 18"...

This is kindof a weird question but i was just wondering how 8 8" Kicker L7s would compare in a single sealed enclosure with 6 cubic feet of airspace in comparisons to one kicker solo x 18" in the same size and type of box... The total area of the 18" would be 1017.87in^2, but the 8 L7s would have a total of 1608.45in^2 surface area moving, the wattages would be 5000 rms for the 18" but the rms wattages for the total 8 L7s would be 3600... the total cost for the L7s would be $1600 and the 18" would be around $1300, The price of the amps need would be cheaper than one big one for the 18" though. So which would top which???

I'd go the eight 8s just for the "Wow!" factor as people see a mad stack of "little" subs.

    Re: 8 8"s vs 1 18"...

    That is one impressive 18...

I wouldnt even think about it, you would probably be just as happy with the 18 as the 8's, and it will cost you less.

    18's FTW

    Re: 8 8"s vs 1 18"...

if you could buy 16 boss audio R8s for $400, and a Diamond audio TDX15D4 for $400, then a Lanzar VIBE3100D amp for the TDX for $369, then 2 Boss Audio GT780 amps for $280, the 16 R8s runnin 2 subs per channel for a max of 125 rms per speaker at 2 ohm. With the gain set on the VIBE to the rms of the 15", I think it would be funny to have 16 8" subs in a single box, this setup would be quite cheap to test out too. $680 for 16 8" subs with amps, or one 15" sub with an amp for $769, give or take the extra materials for the bigger box for the 8"ers i'd say these setups would be just about identical in price, and if you needed space, you could always just put the 8" subs on all 5 sides of the box.
