    pair of L5 12's or L7 10's?

I was just wondering what would sound louder/better, a pair of L7 10's or a pair of L5 12's? They would be in a sealed enclosure & be powered by a JBL 1200.1...I was thinking the 12's cuz there's more surface area??

If I get the L7 10's I'd put them in a 2^3 sealed box and if I got the L5 12's I'd put them in a 4^3 box. Either way I'm going to buy off ebay. I can get the L7's delivered for about $360 or I could get the L5's delivered for about $50 less. I'm still not sure about it...

jmac no offense but whoever told you the L5's are louder than the L7's is smoking some seriously good **** and you need to hook it up. the L7's are a better sub in general SPL and for SQ i don't think either will have hardly any in that small of a box. if you want more SQ from a pair of L7 10"s build like a 3cuft box and that will work fine with them. i say L7's all the way.

I would go with the L7 12's but I already have the JBL 1200.1 amp and I don't really need 750w rms when I can only give them 600w. So what you're saying is the L5 12's would definitely be louder than the L7's, but the L7's might sound a little cleaner?

    lol i just noticed that...it's a d-a-m-n shame

    another question though...even with the JBL 1200.1 would a pair of 12 L7s blow away 10" L7s?

I would have to say the exact opposite of you and Jmac...the two 10s for SPL and maybe I'm missing something, but the L7s are more expensive.

Could you explain to me why the 10" L7's would have better SQ than the 12" L5's??? Same power handling, lower price , louder volumes...is it just because the L5's will be louder?

here is what i said on another thread long time ago about the 10's. i didn't use the Sd for the cone area, but for the sake of arguement....(we were talking about the L5 i think, or was it the L7...)

the 12" are more efficient than the 10". reason why they all use 10", because you can stuff more 10" than a 12".

the 10" is rated at 600 watts RMS and the 12" is rated at 750.

    (14) 10" will have about the same area (1400 square inches) as (10) 12" (1440 square inches)

    (14) 10" =600watts (14 subs)=8400 watts RMS total
    (10) 12" =750watts (10 subs)=7500watts RMS total
