When you recone a sub, What do you guys use for a shim when dropping in the recone? I've heard some people say a piece of manilla envelope But since there are different gap sizes does it depend on what sub you're reconing?

I used printer paper, cut to the correct size.
Anywhere from 3-4pieces to 10-12 pieces... depending on the size of the gap.
I try to get as tight a fit as possible, without having problems with the paper.

i used a manilla folder on my pbx recone and it was too much and the coil rubbed when i tried it out

You have to make sure the shims are tight in the gap, otherwise you will have rubbing.
The good thing about paper vs manilla folders is paper is thinner. So you can pretty much add as much as you need to get the correct gap. Also, you must have the paper or shim equally around in the gap. This means that you can't have it over lapped anywhere or you can't have a big space where the is no paper.
