Do i NEED to damp inside the box ?

i know some people do it...but is it wise to put damping material inside of a sub box ?
like lining the walls...with dynamat for instance
    wise or not ?

    thanks

well my system is really built for sq

also i heard the damping prevents the cone from bumping too much...which will save the voice coil from blowing easily
    also reduces any cone noise
