Fiberglassing Question: Do I Resin the Inside Fleece? LIKE OMGZ PICS!

I made a ****** custom enclosure for my car to hold a 8 inch sub right across fro my center console, now its all fiberglassed. The insides are the fleece, should I paint the insides with Resin?....the inside fleece just looks like normal fleece, still all furry....

Re: Fiberglassing Question: Do I Resin the Inside Fleece?

If you did the outside well (enough layers of fiberglass) there really isn't any need to resin the inside. The strength is in the fiberglass and if you covered the outside with resin and multilayers there is no risk of air leaks. The top of the fleece should have been soaked in resin and allowed to dry before the fiberglass layers even started.

    resin it anyway.

just do it - it cant hurt anything, and all it will do is make it stronger!

resin without adding any layers of fiberglass isn't going to do jack for strength to a box thats already glass laid. All it can do is make it more airtight which covering the outside already achieved. If your going to resin the inside lay fiberglass or you arent really adding strength to the box.

It will make it stronger. Ater 1 layer of glass on my kicks, it still would flex if you pushed hard, I resined the inside and the flex noticably decreased to about nothing, of course I built up a couple more layers of glass on the outside afterwords aswell.

Even if what you say were true, his point was he still had a dry layer of fiberglass on the inside. Adding resin to the inside will strengthen it, and seal up those loose fibers. You dont want them working loose and floating around inside your enclosure.

the funtastic point is, the furry inside of the fleece is not soaked because it was so thick. so addding a layer of resin, and soaking that furry layer WILL in fact make it stronger because the fibers of the material are there.

if it was already just solid resin, it would not help very much, but this is no the case
