First of all, there isn't a 3" coil out there that can hold 1600W worth of heat indefinitely period. 4" coil yes, 3" coil no. They will all heat up and fail over time at this power level. Also it doesn't appear that you broke this sub on 1600W and it also doesn't appear that only having 2 spiders was the cause of the failure. That looks to be similar to a TC-9 motor which support a lot of platforms that can handle 1200W just fine.

ALSO if you indeed just broke a tinsel that's 1$ plus some CA glue to fix, no need to destroy 80$ worth of good softparts....that in fact is one reason I never use woven or burried tinsels since they would require completely scragging the whole assembly.

All that being said IMO PSi seems to over charge for rather cheap Chinese parts, ***** you didn't like the sub. If you're in Fryeburg Maine I can meet up with you at some point and recone it and show you what a real 400$ subwoofer looks like.

My question to you would be what did you say to Dave? Usually if Dave has an issue he is more then willing to help unless the person is being a **** then he tells them to pound sand.

Well at first I was happy with my 18" it friggin slammed I thanked him like no other haha then it started heating upa nd I explained how I set it up and he said: "you're clipping it back it down." So I backed it down it still got warm and was barely even loud, so I hooked it upto a DMM to see what voltage I was getting and it was around 800-1000rms (STILL GETTING WARM) so I explained to him my voltage, my amplifier and everyhting ive tried and he told me it was the amplifier.... So I bought a DC 1.2K and it STILL got warm off 800-1000RMS. BTW I DIDNT BREAK the tinsel it was either broken when I got it or the subwoofer just couldnt handle the power and it broke or something.

I explained to him the subwoofer could NOT handle 1600RMS daily and that I wanted him to fix it (NOT A REFUND) I even offered to send it back so he could see for himself and he insisted I had to pay shipping both ways (80$+) I said **** that when I can get a recone for $40 more.. heh. Point is dave knew he was in the wrong and blamed ME and my amplifier for it, ya I didnt get my money back or my sub fixed but he wont get mine or any of my 4 friends buisiness that were told about it. One of them was going to buy 2 18's off him too lmfao and I was gonna get another one. Also he SAID it would have sewn leads I didnt realize until now actually that it said they aren't I paid extra for those spiders and those leads, I also paid extra for a Daily 1600RMS subwoofer even though it was only a platform 1. I could have gotten a platform 2 with bigger magnet and coil for that price now since he changed the platform prices.

First off guys, this thread is about a subwoofer that was purchased roughly a YEAR ago.

A few weeks after getting it, he told me that it was getting hot and stinky. We spent quite a long time on the phone, and in emails about gain settings, clipping, voltage, etc, etc.

Once we spoke about how to fix his settings, he reported back that all was good, and that the sub was working fine.


Here is an email from Jesse from 11/27/2011, just a month or something after getting it. This is AFTER helping him set the amp up..

At some point after building a new box, and supposedly bottoming the sub out a few times, he lost one of the voice coils. He asked if it would be covered under warranty, and I told him "probably not", but that if he would send it back, and I could justify warranting it, that I would. I never heard back.

I have not spoken to Jesse in months. Nothing about wanting to send it, or wanting a recone kit... nothing. The conversation that we had ended with him saying "Thanks dude". I did not feel that he was upset, and expected to hear back if he wanted to send the sub back to us.


All of a sudden this morning, I see a friend request on Facebook from none other than, Jesse Lusky. This afternoon I get an email, pointing me to this 4 page long thread. Guess who posted it?


This seems out of the blue to me. Considering the time that has passed, and what he has done to the subwoofer (wall socket video), what else am I supposed to do? I offered tech support to this guy, spoke to him in lengthy phone conversations, offered to try to cover the sub if possible, offered a discount on a recone if it was his fault (this was months after he bought it, and had abused it IMO).... I just honestly feel that I did what should have been done in this situation.

I cannot just do things for free in fear that the guy will post a negative remark about our company. I understand that Jesse may have some ill feelings, and I am sorry for that, but I do not feel that he was treated poorly in any way.


Just to be clear about the sub, it was a Platform 1 series back in 2010! It would be called a Platform 2 now. It is still identical from year to year. Jesse was sent exactly the series that he was supposed to get.

Also, the spiders used were upgraded to 9" at Jesse's request. I did not have a listing for 9" spiders on the quote sheet, so I just clicked in for 3 8" spiders, to equal the price needed. These was never any intention of using another spider on this. The sub was built with the correct parts.

The coil used was a 2.5" long 4 layer aluminum roundwire coil. We use it quite a bit in the Platform 2 subs, and this has been the only report of it not handling 1500w rms. I know of other subs that use a vey similar coil, rated for 1800-2000w rms. We are usually pretty conservative on power ratings.

So in closing, I stand behind what I did in this situation. I am sorry that we could not make Jesse happy, but an honest effort was given.

Second you said that box was fine and it would handle lows fine below 27hz and 7cft. 3rd YOU said I bottomed the subwoofer out I DID NOT, you blamed everything on my and my amplifier without a second of blame for yourself. Explain why your subwoofer can't handle what smaller woofers can? Explain why it broke when I've NEVER blown a subwoofer, explain how it was HOT off less power than 1600RMS daily. You can't , stop trying to rob your customers I've had 4 or 5 people on facebook tell me they have had similar problems and opted for new subs.

I stopped talking to you because I wasn't getting anywhere I'm not rude by nature but it annoys me that you think you can take advantage of people, you using cheap parts must be why 5-10 others have complained and this topic has almost 30 likes, stop trying to fool people man.

It's funny concidering my DC's take more power alone than your 18" did isn't that weird?! huh and its funny because YOU SAID "This 18" will sound BETTER and perform BETTER than ANY DC you can get in the price range." Funny concidering my DC for only $180 tools on it... I can put 1600 on my DC and clip them and they barely get warm, your sub off 1000rms got hella hot. YOu ASSUMED I bottomed the woofer out you have ZERO proof, I was working with you for awhile trying to fix it in the end it was YOUR FAULT.

How did I clip it?! lol explain... ZERO voltage drop @ 14v full tilt and I was running a 1500RMS amplifier @ 1000RMS. explain why even my DC 1.2K made it overheat? Explain how with the SAME tuning technique my DC level 3 15" takes MORE power lol. Explain how I bottomed a subwoofer out AFTER dave said it would take 27hz @ 7cft daily without a problem and just to be careful RAAM designed it according to T/S specs heh? and I only ran it off 1000rms because if I went to even 1100rms I couldnt even touch the dustcap.

I guess you need 16v stable, 200a alt, 3 batts, and a Osciloscope to make one of PSI's subs actually work without blowing huh? Well good thats EXACTLY the reason I'm not buying from him so far everything I've done has come out fine... Hell I won 1st place on my 1st competition with my DC's tuning by ear. I guess I'm a noob tho huh? because it's DAVE the almightys word against mine, maybe im an arrogant prick but imagine if MONEY was an ISSUE to me man I'd be really slamming him with hate, fortunatly I just moved on lol.
