Looking for something to keep up

Hey, I've decided to go with 2 RE XXX 15's for my subs in a '99 Ford Explorer, and I'm looking for some good speakers that will be able to hold their own while the 15's are doing their thing. I don't know much when it comes to fronts/rears/sizes/differences/tweets/etc so im hoping I can get some help here. I'm looking to spend somewhere between $600 and $800, and while I'm pretty firm on not going over 800, I'd consider something slightly more expensive -- i'd just look for a deal somewhere. I want something clear and clean ; something that will be able to keep up with my sub setup and still sound nice and bright. Do you think this is doable? If so, any suggestions?

to be honest i never heard comp set non horned keep up with 1 loud 15 not to mention 2. if they have these in stock get it then with the other $ get a good 15 band + eq and you are set.

Anybody else? I don't expect to find something to keep up if I really get the XXX's pounding, I just want something that'll sound nice, clear, bright, what have you, and still be able to come through at fairly high volumes. Not rediculously high, but.. well, you get the idea... someone suggested some CDT CL-61's, any opinions?

here i will break it down for you
1. tonally is opinion- id expect a 40-60 split in favor of reg speakers because people seem to like distortion lol
2.horns have considerably less distortion
3.horns image better
4.horns get alot louder without distorting

cdt s would keep up to about half volume maybe then would get ridiculous lol they arent bad speakers its just that those types of speakers were not built to try to keep up with 2000 watts of brutality.

Yeah someone I know mentioned that CTD's EF61-CFI/25 would probably do nicely, any opinions??

I never heard the xxx, but my friend has top of the line focals that can make ur ears bleed. my silk tweets with the diamond HEX make me flinch sometimes, so i can only imagine the aluminum tweets.

if utopias make your ears bleed then horns would take your head clean off lol. to put in prospective my old cd-3 horns had 25 watts of power to them at an eff of 109. at a local fair with 10,000 people easy you could hear the song i was playing over the music they were playing for the rides that were a block away with me standing 20 feet behind the ride. plain as day you could hear what song i was playing and everything. some conventional speakers will get louder than others (cdt isnt known for being jammer speakers) will they work ? yuh . will they work up to his expectations? maybe would they work up to mine mated with those subs? noway in hell. i would go boston z or a high end version of focals. also amp power will need to be considered here

I 2nd the opinion for horns. While regular comps can sound nice and get relatively loud, horns simply blow them away in clean output levels, and do it with A LOT less power. I can get my horns loud enough that it is uncomfortable [nauseating] to sit in my car, and they still sound 100% on key and perfect, with no hints of stress.

However, my old Boston Acoustic Pro6.5's were able to keep up with my 145db sub setup that I had back in da day. But, I had a 400w RMS x 2 @ 4ohm amp running them, and at high volumes they'd get extremely harsh (almost to the point that they were unlistenable).

Most people seem to be on the ID bandwagon nowadays. They are good though, I plan on picking up a set of the CD-2's once I get some more money saved up

lol i got off that bandwagon sometime ago although i was on it for 9 years lol
