    I screwed up!!!!!!!

I used a jigsaw to cut holes for 6x9's in my car. The original holes are for 6.5". Well the thing went out of control and I ended up with holes too big to screw the speakers in.

What I did was used thick weather strip with the adhesive back and stuck it around the edge of the 6x9 and around the edge of the hole I cut. Then I caulked around the speaker making sure there was no gaps so it's sealed. When it dries it's gonna be stuck solid to the rear deck.

Question is will not screwing the speaker to the frame cause me to lose bass? I just wanted more bass than the 6.5" gave and while the caulk was drying I played some songs and automatic bass improvement.

Also would I get better bass if I boxed the 6x9's? These things hit pretty hard I'm sure they can hit harder.

    Thanks in advance

yes you will get a better response if they were sealed and not running in an infinate baffle.

Well cause you seem to have cutting tools, just make a frame out of wood to fit the hole you made, and put the 6x9s in the frame.

I was thinking about making a frame to begin with but the rare deck is not a flat surface. It's like a freakin roller coaster (holes here, bevel there).

I'm not skilled enough to carve wood to fit that crazy back deck. What's an infinate baffle?

    Re: I screwed up!!!!!!!

basically theres no enclosure with the speakers (infinite baffle) cuz the rear lets say is connected to the whole car which isnt sealed. I know my definition must be kinda off but u get the point right? If you put them in boxes they would be sealed. Probably like .3 cubes or sumthin but they will be small. I dont think u will gain much more "Loudness" tho. I wouldnt go through the trouble unless you want them to sit on TOP of the rear deck not screwed under it. Again I wouldnt go through the hassle or money. And if you really want better sound just deaden the rear deck maybe even add some polyfill there.
