Icon32 DLS Ultimate or Iridium Owners: Where/How are you mounting the TWEETER?

    Hello,

This is my first post as I've only recently discovered CarAudio.com -- great site and a relief from some other forums I've been reading!

I'm about to take delivery on a DLS Iridium 6.2 component set and will be matching it to an Arc Audio 4150XXK (bridged 320w x 2 in 4ohm bridge mode). I purchased the DLS based soley on reviews and have never personally listened to them. From descriptions, the DLS exhibits all the qualities I am looking for in speakers (read: not bright).

I currently run CDT-HD62 and while they are very good, I am looking for more; I am betting the DLS will give me more.

My question to current DLS owners is: How do you mount your tweeters? I currently have the CDT tweeters in my Ford Escape front door A-pillars facing each other on oposite side. Can I mount the DLS tweeters in this fashion as well? Will it be wide dispersing enough to give that good center image?

Yep, I hear ya - turn the gains DOWN. My other option is to run the front stage full active via 80w x 4 @ 4Ohms.

Either way you'll be fine. I had my 4150 bridged to my ACS(110rms) at one point, they were fine with proper gain setting...
DLS and Rainbow tweets arent too different dispersion wise-mine are mounted in my sail panels ear level- each 'slightly' angled toward opposite pasenger side- they happen to be at the widest location in the vehicle at ear level point and it allows for a nice wide stage.

So what was it like to have 320W to each channel? SQ wise, did it sound the same as it would with 85W or is it just more headroom?

You said "at one point" - did you switch to some other configuration?

No, it did not sound the same 330rms vs 100rms(thats what a 4150 actually puts out cleanly per ch down to 12.5v)....all I can say is that you have to see for yourself. Midbass is stronger and more controlled and the highs carry on higher w/out a hint of break up- you'd be surprised what power on tap does to your speakers. You just dont want exactly ALL that power going to them either, adjust your gains accordingly and enjoy dynamic headroom- it was enough a difference for me to dytch my rear fill speaks.

At that point I sold my cxl4150 in favor of another xxk2500 to match my sub amp-so now i have a rated 270rms x2 powering each side.
