Help with a front stage tweeter or small speaker?!?!

I was wondering if any of the guru's could help me on this

I have MB Quart 6 1/2 components in the front and Chameleon 7" Components in the back, both receiving about 112 watts per speaker set.

However, I also have some empty spaces in my dash where I could fit some more tweeters or even 3 1/2" , possibly a 4x6 mid.

Can someone give me a recommendation of a speaker that will fit in this location and help bring my stage forward even the tiniest bit more. It absolutely has to have a nice smooth vocal sound, little or no harshness whatsoever, AND be able to do this on only the 25 watts RMS that my headunit is putting out because I cant afford to mess up my ohm loads on my other amps.

It doesn't necesarily have to be loud, Just clear and have just enough little bit of umph to bring my stage a little more forward from the windshield reflection.

    Thanks for any advice!

I wouldn't suggest adding co-axials up there. Then you would have the same sounds coming from two totally different locations (the components and the co-axials). If you really want to put something up there, look into a 3-way component set. You could put the 4's and tweeters up in your dash and midbass in the doors.

Re: Help with a front stage tweeter or small speaker?!?!

Well, I just bought my other two component sets for what, to me, is quite a hefty price. So, I can't afford to get a whole new 3 way set for up front.

I just figured if I got a 3 1/2" coaxial or even a 3 1/2" midrange for the dash that it might help out with some of my front soundstaging since my mid-woofers are in the kickpanels and my tweeters are 20 degree angle-flush mounted in the doors.

The stage is already upfront for most of the sound, but the only area that needs to be pulled forward a bit is the mid to upper range vocal, so I thought that would do the trick.

    Anyone else have any ideas?

another idea, although you'll have to sell your current comps, is to get a set of comps from cdt. they have the option for a imaging kit which contains an extra set of tweets and a l-pad. most of their crossovers have this option.

you can also "place" a set a cheap speakers and let pyshoacoustics do the trick.

Re: Help with a front stage tweeter or small speaker?!?!

If he likes the sound of his current components, he should keep them. No point in selling something he likes just to add an auxillary tweeter. If he wants to do an auxillary tweeter thing, he can buy a pair of tweets and make/buy an xover, get a little 50w x 2 amp to go along with them. Just needs to make sure the tweets are crossed over high....like 7khz or above. Though, adding an auxillary tweeter probably won't fix his problem if the problem is in the vocal area, as that is mainly a midrange thing.....not really something an auxillary tweeter only playing 10khz and above (as in the CDT imaging kit) will fix.

Another thing to think about.......if you did the kicks yourself, you could always just try building a new pair with different aiming.

Re: Help with a front stage tweeter or small speaker?!?!

I think I gave everyone the impression that there is a problem. That isn't what I meant at all.

My imaging is spectacular. I think I would shed tears in joy if I was ever to put a DVD player in my SUV and setup the surround sound.

The gist of the situation here is that I know there is an empty 3 1/2 slot in the dash that I considered putting my tweeters in when I got my components. I tried my tweets in that spot as well as about 8 others and decided on the place that they are located now because thats where I got the best imaging.

I was just wondering, since the space is empty, if I could add a 3 1/2" and it would bring my vocals and midrange instruments forward even more and add to the timbre a little bit.

Thats all I was saying. I love the way it sounds now, but we audioheads always want to try something to make it better.

I was just asking for a recommendation on a small speaker that sounds great and isn't harsh to put into that spot.

Sorry if I wasn't as clear as I should've been. Thanks for the help though.

Anyone got any other ideas for the speaker besides Alpine and Infinity?
Preferably something with a softer tweeter than those two.

My MB Quarts already have a titanium tweet up front so I'm as bright as I need to be. I'll be needing a warmer sound with these.

    Thanks!

    OK, well, new question then.

Does anyone know of a plain old 3 1/2" mid ( not coaxial ) that has great smooth vocals? Oh yeah, and not too deep of a profile, the space isn't very deep.

Though, don't forget that you will need to find a way to bandpass them.

I don't understand what you mean. Bandpass them? Could you explain what you mean by that?

How would I accomplish this and why would I need to? Thanks!

Re: Help with a front stage tweeter or small speaker?!?!

Bandpass is passing a certain set of frequencies in between two crossover points. For example, if you have a 4" mid that you want to get frequencies between 200Hz and 1KHz, then you would lowpass filter it at 1Khz and highpass filter it at 200Hz.

Neon pretty much explained what it is and how. But, you need to because you can't allow them to play full range. You will need to limit the bandwidth that they play.

Re: Help with a front stage tweeter or small speaker?!?!

Ahhhh, gotcha. I knew that I was going to have to do that, but didn't know what it was called.

What product would be best suited for that? I can use the high pass crossover on the H/U to cut out the low lvl sound, but how could I limit the high lvl freq's? I've seen inline bass blockers, but never an inline low pass filter. Do they make them?

Thanks for the help guys. I appreciate it.

    Inline highpass filter = capacitor ----> http://www.bcae1.com/capspkr.htm
    Inline lowpass filter = inductor ----> http://www.bcae1.com/indspkr.htm

Also known as passive crossovers ----> http://www.bcae1.com/passxovr.htm

Get some prototype circuit board and make your own filter network.

Or, go the easy route and pick up an Fmod lowpass: http://www.partsexpress.com/webpage....35471&desc=ASC
