Component Dilemme

Just got done selling off my system (15"dp, autotekstealth xs1500.1, CDT EF6.1, Yellowtop, etc)

Basically i want a good high powered comp set and eliminate the need for external subs, going for a more quiet SQ kinda setup)

I was considering the 3 way HD642 comp set with about 300W going to each side. Don didn't recommend putting all speakers in the door (6.5" midbass in the stock low holes) and 4" and 1" flush mounted on the door panel. He said to put in kicks, but they dont make kicks for 99 taurus so it would have to be custom done by a car audio shop for around 250-300 bucks.

Then I thought maybe get better results from a nice 2 way comp set in nice custom kicks? I dont know what to do but expensive 3 way comp set + expensive custom kickpanels dont agree with me. But I dont want to buy expensive 3 way comp sets then sound like %60 what they could be like, simply cuz i didnt wanna spend 300 on kickpanels. Either way I want really good midbass response and eliminate the need for subs.

My main goal for the high powered comps is really loud,clear,crisp,smoooth and GOOD MIDBASS ( thats all no biggie

Not going to happen, sorry. You're not going to find a midbass that will play cleanly down into the low 30's with any kind of output/authority. You will need a sub if you want to cover the bottom octaves.

Imaging is going to depend 100% on the install, not the speakers. And Don is right, if you go 3-way you'll really want the midranges and tweets in kicks and midbass in door.

where in florida are you? there is a small chain in daytona and around those parts that do awesome work (last i knew they did mb quarts) not sure on anyother speakers they do but they sound like what you want when done. i wanna say sound crafters but im not sure but their logo is white red and black.

That's like saying all 10's are capable of hitting 169.x db because Nate Munson did it. It's possible, but not a skill most people possess.

Well I understand the lower end will lack some, but I dont listen to too much rap and just want good midbass response from whatever drivers I get, like when I hear the 6.5 comp sets in car audio shops thats enough midbass for me but those are obviously in nicely sealed setups and hard to get like that in a car. Basically I have about total of 600-700 bucks to spend on amp/comp/ kicks (if needed)

i have seen it alot more than 1 time actually. even seen a regualar oz component set do it. you would need metal work done more than likely but something acceptable can be done even if he ended up using a re 8 or ten in the long run. memphis 8" syncs do it too but require semi large kicks (at an angle that wouldnt make sense to you im sure) but if your not crying over foot space for your non driving leg its no prob and probable could be made within reason to his 250 quote (200-350 for sure depending on who does it) my 8" s could go down to 20 flat no sub and if you wanna get trixie pvc pipe and breathable materials can be brought into play. thats what im doing to mine lol

later on maybe I could add 2 6" subs in the rear deck IB setup Im like 2 hrs from daytona btw. I just called car audio shop they quoted anywhere from 150 - 300 for kickpanels depending what n eeded to be done (kick for 4" and 1") If i do get kicks hmm Might be able to up my budget close to 800 at the most.

if they install other stuff the mem 8's are nice (nice enough that makes me onder why they arent used more) also if you go by what they sell (that shop) they should know how to make their product sound best. basically would be a full tilt competition front sound stage to a degree sans some of the fanciness but still very nice

Nope only been to daytona for SBN once, I have 1-2 car audio shops in my area that I can trust, the other 7-8 I dont deal with. Maybe I should get a nice 2 way comp set then 8" woofer in the middle of the rear deck IB setup? I really want a 3 way in the front though I think i wouldnt need a sub if done nicely :-) will be getting about 200-300WRMS each side too so i need speakers that like lots of power such as the HD series from CDT.

Boston Acoustics Pro6.5's and Z6's. I had 400w per side (800w RMS total) on my BA Pro's and they sounded great.
