    Has anyone used or heard these DLS 7"x10" speakers?

    These: http://www.dls.se/english/speakers/1070.htm

    They seem pretty neat. A bigger speaker in a smaller opening. How much difference does it make in sound having the X-over? Reason I ask is I am leaning towards the Boston SL-95's (sound good) but they don't have a X-over. Even the Polk's I looked at had a X-over. What does having the X-over allow you to do with a speaker like this?

    Re: Has anyone used or heard these DLS 7"x10" speakers?

    just FYI;

    coaxial speakers have a midbass speaker and an integrated tweeter. ther is a *crossover* but its not exactally the same. if you look, there are tiny capicators on these speakers to 'cross over' the tweeters at a higher frequency (aka - lowpass filter) generally, these are the speakers sold at stores and come standard in cars.

    component speakers have seperate crossovers, midbass, and tweeters. they are more complicated to install, because there are three parts to wire and mount versus one, but the imaging (direction of sound) and sound quality are more dynamic (because you can aim them and move the tweeters around, and wire the tweeter and\or midbass out of phase [in reverse] to match the opposite speaker - better sound if done right). they can usually handle more power, and are more often than not, higher quality.

    and on top of that;

    round speaker > non round speaker = better sound quality.

    oval speakers (6x9, 5x7, 4x6, 7x10) and the likes, have inherent noise because the cone is different shape and weight and all kinds of weirdness, and has a better chance of being a non-linear movement (higher distortion) versus a round speaker. they are usually, as stated, lower quality, and are not as good in most cases.

    i would highly recommend not getting coaxial unless you know what you are buying, or you have no idea what you are doing with a component set.

    if anything was wrong in my post - nick, squeak or anyone, please correct me. (its kinda eairly)

    the DLS's will spank those JVC's..no contest. Ask any one whose used DLS before and you'll get the same answer.

    Don't PM me, I'm not here. Find me on SSA or ROE
    No, I won't re-upload the Big3 pictures. Don't ask.
