    Icon32 help w/ speaker choice

I need some opinions - trying to decide which speakers to use in my new 2005 Ford Expedition (front and rear doors). First - should I use the replacement size 5X7 or go with 5 1/4 's...component sets of course... Next, i'm leaning toward MB Quart, JL Audio and Alpine as my choices. Cost doesn't really matter - but would like to stay under $500.00 for each door.....The speakers will be powered by a JL 300/4. Let me know what you think!!

$500 for each door, means about 2 grand for all 4 doors. Holy ****.

Infinity Kappa Perfect 6.1s all around, attached to a Viper 200.4 amp. Respectable, and may not sound half bad.

if youve got two grand ya might as well get something decent
top o' the line mbquarst are nothing to sneeze at, also focal, image dyamics, focal, diamond ect. you might think about some horns..unparalleled SQ and efficiancy

    http://www.imagedynamicsusa.com/webs.../hornsets.html

if i remember right they are like 500 a pair, then get some regular comps for the other doors, maybye these if you want to match brands

Forget about the rear speaker.....just put some decent co-axials back there. Spend ~$700 on a set of Boston Z6 comps, bridge the amp to the pair, then pay a qualified installer a decent amount of money to build some custom kicks.

    Re: help w/ speaker choice

Doh! I meant $500 per pair....not door! I can't see spending $1,000 for a PAIR of speakers - so the BA's are out. So, what would be a good recommendation for another component set up front? In my last system I had a pair of Alpine SPX 177A's that I had to leave in when I sold it. They sounded really good, but I wanted to upgrade a bit this time...

Squeak you are right about the rear door - I'm going to put a pair of Co-Axials there. The factory speaker is a 5X7 - but I think a 6X8 will fit also. Any ideas for a quality replacement?

Lastly, I have the 3rd row powerfold seats and don't have much room for a sub box. JL makes a stealth box with 1 10w3v2 woofer. It installs in the center console between the front captains chairs and fires down to the floor. I'm not sure that is the best location, but i guess its the only place a box would fit. My feeling is that the sub would drown out the sound of the door speakers being that close up front. Am I right? BTW - I have a JL 250/1 to power my bass...and while i'm at it, my HU is an Alpine CDA 7897...

I know I sound like a newbie, but i'm not....I've been into car audio since before I could drive. I just want some good advice with this system so I can get it right the 1st time! Any help is really appreciated!

But if you are not spending $500 on the rear, then that means you can increase your budget for the front

    Anyways, there are still a ton in $500 and under;

    Boston Acoustic Pro60; http://www.woofersetc.com/product.as...7&1=238&3=3150
Boston Acoustic Pro6.5 (older model, still good though); http://www.woofersetc.com/product.as...7&1=238&3=1226
    Dynaudio; http://www.woofersetc.com/product.as...0&1=271&3=1261
    Focal Polykevlar; http://www.woofersetc.com/product.as...0&1=292&3=2205
    Diamond Hex; http://www.woofersetc.com/product.as...6&1=267&3=1168
    MB Quart Q-series
    OZ Audio Matrix Elite; http://www.speedsound.com/caraudio.a...ific=jnhrhmgrk
    Rainbow Professional; http://www.speedsound.com/caraudio.a...ific=jncpnnpok
    Image Dynamics CXS6; http://www.cardomain.com/item/IDSCXS64
    Alpine Type-X comps

And that's just the tip of the iceburg.......

    I'd try to find a good plate-speaker.

Lastly, I have the 3rd row powerfold seats and don't have much room for a sub box. JL makes a stealth box with 1 10w3v2 woofer. Properly level matched, the sub should work fine up there.
