Extremis 6

I was looking into buying the Koda 6.1 components, but since the Extremis are cheaper then i expected, i want to just buy the woofers and then get some crossovers and tweets, does anyone know if adire sells the koda 6.1 tweets and crossovers seperate, or can someone suggest some x-overs and tweets for the extremis? Thanks

Well, yes, they sell the crossover/tweeter separate. However, the Koda mid is 4ohm and the Extremis is 8ohm.....so the Extremis mid won't work on the Koda crossover. And building your own passive crossover is rather difficult and not something easily done without the proper equipment. You could send them to somewhere like madisound and have them measure/build the passive crossovers for you; but that costs somewhere around $100 per crossover plus all the shipping. You may be able to sweet talk Adire into custom building a set of passives for you, I dunno how well that would fly though. Get on the horn with Stephen and ask I guess. So long story short (just realized I was rambling), don't try building passive xovers yourself....LOL.

Your other option is to go active. You'll need atleast 4 channels of amplification (one channel for each mid and tweeter individually), and an active crossover. This could get kinda expensive, because if you don't have a 4-channel amp (or 2 two channel amps), then you'd need to buy one. Plus you'd need to buy a good active xover (~$100 or so)

What does Adire expect you to use as a xover? Nothing?

Active, or have someone experienced enough with the right equipment build passives. Remember, these were actually designed for the DIY home audio market. Alot of those guys do have the equipment to measure the speakers and build the xovers, or know somewhere close by that does

Well my plan was to buy the koda 6.1, and i already bought a MA Audio HK-297 2 channel for them, and now i emailed Adire and they said that they were out of stock. Can't believe this. But all well, im sure the 6.1 won't be 225 anymore like i planned when they come back in stock. So i guess i have to look around for some comps that work with my amp.

2x100 watts @ 4ohm

2x150 watts @ 2ohm

1x400 watts @ 4ohm
Thats the specs, i got it for like 100$ brand new. If anyone has the time to suggest some good comp speakers, that would go good with my future subs (either a 18sx or maybe a 15" xxx) i need something that will be loud. I'm not to worried about all that much midbass, but it would be nice, im going to have 2 jl 8's as well for that. Thanks

BTW, my price limit is about 225, as that is what i planned to spend on the kodas. I want sound quality > midbass, if that makes sense. Great Sound reproduction = Yummmm

it's not that hard to build a passive, provided you study up on it, and know how to add values together to attain the number you need. I just built one, and I really had the extremis 6 in mind, seeing how they "claimed" it was made for people who was looking into the scanspeak 8545 mids. Wish there was someone here who have tried it.
