off-axis/on-axis

Can someone explain to me what that means in term of component speakers?

im not positive, but i think it if you're talking about the mounting position, then it means that they midrange / tweeter can be mounted seperatly, or on-axis as a coaxial like setup.

i thought it ment off and on cause like speakers sound best when turned off.....lol

Speaker pointing directly at you = on-axis
Speaker pointing in any other direction = off-axis

Okay so let's say I install my comps in my car's kickspanels - they face the center/each other. Is that off or on-aqxis?
