Alpine 6.5s ??

I bought some alpine sps170a 6.5s.... They are rated at 40 rms/200 peak each. I asked the audio guy I bought it from how much power they would handle, he told me they would take 200 watts! Uhm.... so yea... how much power can they really handle, right now Im pushing them 50 rms each with my gains set pretty low and they will blow you out but its still a little shakey at high volume. So whats the best rms to push these with? Thanks - Jeremy

Obviously not more than what your already giving them, if your getting distortion...

well you could check to make sure its positive on positive and negative on negative. that could cause distortion at higher volumes.

also alpine in my experience dont do lows very well. but i ran a crossover and had 2 kicker 10" doing the bass with mid and hi's from the alpine 6.5 and alpine 6X9 and they would clear as hell!!

so it could just be your asking too much of the speaker. the lows on the alpine interfere with the mids...... causing distortion.....

My Alpine Type-R's put out hella midbass. Really it sounds like I have 8 inch subs crammed in the doors.

"SPS" those are type S "SPR" = Type R he has the type S

i heard the type s at circuit city, i thought they were just eh.

my friend's type r's are better but those too i thought were just eh

maybe i need some dynaudio
