    Speakers for new car

    Hi Guys,

I'm getting a new car soon (Focus ZX5), and I want to fit in a nice audio system.

Short background - I live in Israel, where audio gear prices are EXTREMELEY high. I do, however, travel through work, and will be in detroit next month, and wish to mailorder stuff to our detroit offices, so I can pick it up while there.

So, I have decided, at the first stage, to buy only a HU and Speakers. Later on, I might add an amp and woofer (even got a good deal of a friend who'll sell me his 2nd hand ones... Alpine 307 amp, and some cerwinvega woof)- Anyway, I have already decided to purchase the Alpine 9827 HU (unless anyone has good points as for another brand, or climbing up to a more expensive model), and now I need to deal with the speakers issue.

Since this is a work car, which I have to return after a couple of years, and take everything out, I decided to limit myself to things which are easy (and cheap) to install and remove, and decided to limit my funding for this too. Hence, I am NOT looking for any component speakers, but rather looking for decent 2/3 way speakers to use.

I've spent quite some time looking around, and right now I think the best I found was the Infinity ref6802cf speakers, which are 60w rms (180w peak), and I can get two pairs for about 120$, and they would fit in instead of the factory speakers. Since, however, I can't listen to them in advance (I mailorder before getting there...), I want to hear some opinions, as well as other suggestions. I am a bit worried about the bases issue - I read some review online saying that the infinity have very good sound, but are not very good on the bases. Was wondering maybe get only front infinity, and look for something else for the rear doors that would give more bases... if anyone has anything recommended for the same price range...

Thanks for any information I can get :-)))

    Ofer.

    Re: Speakers for new car

Infinity Reference speakers certainly do lack bass, so yeah you will probably want something else for the rear. Actually, the best thing to do is get 6.5" adapters and put in some midbass drivers.

    Reference vs. Kappa

ok - I'm considering taking the Infinity Kappa 572.5cf instead - I heard they have better basses - wanted to get another opinion ;-)

Also - another question related to amp power. I am initially only buying HU and speakaers. I saw that the Kappa have sensitivity of 92dB. Will the 18x4 RMS HU I am getting (alpine 9827) be able to deal with them well? (I think I will prolly get an amp later on... but it might take a few months...)

It'll get them going. If I remember correctly the 9827 is the silver/blue unit with mp3 and has basically the features you need and nothing you dont. You'll probably be able to take your speakers to medium volume levels, but LOUD is out of the question. Not sure how loud you like your music anyway. Kappas do have more bass than the Reference so that is good decision to go with those. You may want to consider just getting good speakers up front and leaving the rears with the stock speakers and just fade it forward.
