Alpine - Type R 6-1/2's (Components), worth the money?

I got a $300 best buy credit.. I'd like to spend something on my vehicle. Since best buy doesn't carry much of what im looking for, i'm thinking of buying my component set through them. How do the Alpine Type R's sound? I'm planning to put them in a 2000 expedition, which uses 6x8's but I could just get an adapter from crutchfield or something to compensate for the size. Thoughts?

Spend it on some easy to sell electronic. Flip it for cash and buy some better comps.

What would be a better choice for the money? If I decide to flip it for cash

200-300 could get you a nice component set. You could even sell the gift card in Craigslist or something of that nature. Depending on how much ya get, the recommendations could vary.

Interesting. Could you give me some recommendations on a component set in the 200-275 dollar range? I want them to be able to at least somewhat keep up with an AQ HDC3 18". (if possible)

Could you post links? I looked at some CDT ES series stuff.. only found component sets $500+

I realize I made a minor mistake.. I have to go with something 6" or smaller, because the hole is 6x8, so 6 1/2's won't fit. I'm not much into modding the panels, so i'd like to just drop them in. (with or without an adapter). I'd be willing to spend a bit more, if it's worth it.. So we'll say the budget is ~$400.

you can fit a 6.5 in a 6x8 opening pretty easily.

It would also come down to what you're powering them with. I had just did an all Type-R install and I think it sounds pretty good. I definitely think the 5x9's sound worlds ahead of the 6 1/2's actually to the point where I would recommend the for the money. The guys on here are right though, lots of better options! Best of luck to you!

Components, not coaxial. And for $300 there are much better options.

alpine type r's are great speakers, i've installed more than my fair share of them, both on stock headunit power and amp'd up. great tiny motor for those small places, small depth, overall good sound. 0.02$.
