2 tweeters ran off 1 capacitor

My buddy is dead set on running his stock tweeters, as well as the alpine coaxial's he has in the door.

If we wired the stock tweeter positive wire to the back off the alpine at the capacitor, and the negative to the negative, would that cause any problems?

The alpine is a 4ohm speaker with a 4.7 uf capacitor. Stock tweeter ohm's is unknown.

Stock is probably 6 or 8 ohm, and if you're running off of the headunit, they don't like to go below 4 ohms, I would recommend not running the tweeter, and if he wants seperate tweeters, tell him get a component set.

Sorry thats a lil beyond my knowledge, what do you mean?

Use a multi meter to find the ohm on the tweeter, then get another cap designed for that ohm load, then wire it to the back of the speaker without the cap thats already there?

Buy a couple little 6.8uF capacitors and wire them in with the stock tweeters.

I would just hook up the 4 speakers and call it a day. Head unit power does not usually do after market speakers any justice however.

Seriously.... if he's not gonna bother with a proper component set up front.... he's not gonna notice any difference in his already mediocre sound. Just hook up the factory tweets as they are, and let him remain happy in his blissful ignorance

I hear this question being asked on car forums all the time, as if tweeter is not not part of the "speaker" that should be upgraded. The stock tweeter was meant to match the factory woofer, in terms of frequency response, level, etc. Tell your buddy that the correct way to do this is to buy a component set, that comes with its woofer, tweeter, and crossover box. Even if your buddy's idea works, 99% chance it will sound like poo.

tell him if he wants to do shoddy work he's on his own. people think that more is better and I have no time for them.

wire the tweeter in parallel with the woofer with the cap on the + run between the tweeter and woofer. it's going to sound like **** but it will be music to your friend's ear. a seperate capacitor that is. leave the alpine speaker alone. It's not its fault the owner has evil plans for it..

The factory tweeter should have its own capacitor. Most times it's physically attached to the tweeter. If you're using the factory wiring there's nothing else you need to do.

I agree with all your guys answers, that it shouldn't be done, and he should just do it the right way or not at all. I personally wouldn't even think about doing that.

I already told him he shouldn't do it, but then he gave me sad face, as he thinks more is better. So I told him id run it by the guys on the forum, thanks for the answers.

Depending on the install, it might not be as bad as you think. Coaxials down low in the doors with tweeters off axis can be weak on the highs. The additional load on the HU should be insignificant given the low energy contained in music at high frequencies. And tweeters are often more than 4 ohms so it could be a non issue. If he's set on it, go for it -
